I have been having this flaky scalp problem for a few months now. Initially I thought it was due to too much blow-drying which led to dry scalp. Recently it's getting worse! The dry skin seem to be spreading to more areas on my scalp. I was told by my stylist that it's not dandruff.

I have tried changing shampoo (twice already) but the condition is not getting any better. Is this some kinda illness?

Anyone able to advise/help?

How is oily scalp defined anyway? Does the scalp secrete oil? I really don't know. . .

You possibly have eczema or psoriasis. See a skin specialist.

eczema only on the scalp? maybe I should really check it out with a specialist. It's becoming a habit to scratch the flakes off. so unsightly. . .

you can get eczema anywhere, whether just on the scalp or not.
There is a shampoo which will help in a brown bottle, called polytar I think? expensive but works quite well. good luck

You can get flakes even if your scalp is oily....so i get flakes myself.....and yes it would be better to determine whether your scalp is dry or oily. Mine is oily.

Oily scalp tend to have more build up thus result in flakes.

So far the treatment i do at the stylist works for me. Alternatively you can go to National Skin Centre to have it checked out. For me my stylist helps me determine what kind of condition i have and use the appropriate treatment.

Can this be purchased off the rack? And where can I get it? When you say expensive may I know how much is it approximately?
