Best Laptop

Hi All,
I'm thinking of buying the latest Sony colourful laptop because of the design. However, it has glossy screen + webcam. I will be using the laptop mainly for surfing, reading articles on the net and writing. And i do not like to show my face accidentally on msn, etc. Any good and nice and value for money laptop to recommend for the above purposes. Thank u very much!

u can go for lenovo, if u dun mind the dull design, if not go for Dell, Dell had come out a lastest design. as for the webcam u can switch off no need that will do.

If you're using your laptop merely for surfing and writing, I'd recommend the Apple MacBook. Much more stable platform plus looks cool. If you do presentations, Keynote is much more capable than PowerPoint.

Hi, just thought of sharing. I just bought the sony vaio laptop recently and though it does come with webcam it will not be switch on automatically even if you logged on to MSN.
I actually bought the laptop for the design and so far it's working quite well (other than the initial stage when i had some problem accessing the cam). But if you are looking for something value for money i think HP will be good.

While IBM don't actually make them they still have the hardware spec approval while Lenovo are using their name.
Get a T61 ( make sure it has the wifi b/g & n adapter in it)

Macbook is worth a serious consideration if your work is only surfing, reading and writing. They are priced generally competitively with PCs of the same specs.
Anyway, the only reason why you want a Macbook is because you would save time from having NOT to troubleshoot software/OS related problems.

i will buy a sony LCD TV anytime, but laptop? no!
as per your subject, the best laptop is lenovo (nee ibm). they are rock solid and reliable and some of them comes with a 3-years worldwide warranty.
once i had a thinkpad 570 and the screen went dead. popped into an ibm service center in KL, they check the serial number and said it's still within the 3-years worldwide warranty and they replaced the screen for free.
if money no object and you not lugging it about, go for the lenovo T61p. it is wide screen and super fast. again, if money no object and you want a lightweight laptop, go for the lenovo X61.
if money is tight, go for something like ACER. webcam on laptops are not as good quality as external webcam. you are not doing hard core stuff on the laptop, so no need for latest and fastest.

I'd always recommend a mac. Far superior in build quality, speed, reliability, looks and naturally the operating system is light years ahead of Windows.
Plus check out the latest advert from apple...

Macs runs windows faster than PC's.... now that really says it all.
And before anyone goes on about software.. Macs have Microsoft office too aswell as a host of FREE programs that'll open office files up and resave them again in that format.
You also don't get viruses, key logging programmes, spyware etc etc. All in all a worthwhile investment and far far superior to PC's.
Now all I wait for are all the PC owners to slate me...

I don't understand the meaning of your post.
I was trying to provide value in my post by recommending a suggestion because I personally use an Apple computer. And I always use that line of recommendation for all people who thinks of buying an Apple computer. I'm dealing with Apple laptops so ask me anything about Apple laptops and I'll be able to give a reply.
By the way, your post wasn't providing any value at all to the thread starter. And with me replying to that post, I'm making this post worthless also. So let's just stop it.

Built quality wise, I think the same can be said for all computer brands. Buying hardware is a really a game of luck. It breaks down if you're unlucky.
Something to add. If you're using Apple computers, you only have to worry about hardware problems. You don't have to worry about software or OS problem because of the quality control.
If you're using Windows, you have to worry about the hardware, OS and software problems.
Basically it boils down to how much you value the time you can spend NOT troubleshooting
