Backpacking.

Is anyone planning to backpack in Dec? Where would you recommend a backpacking destination?

Not planning on a trip - unfortunately still working to pay off my last trip!!
Numerous locations to travel around, guess a lot depends on budget and the time you have available.
Australia is the biggest spot for it - with an amazing diversity of places to go and see, but you need a good deal of time and money to really see the country.
Alternatives in Asia - Thailand / Vietnam / Cambodia / Laos - These can be covered much quicker and with less of a budget.
Let me know if you need any specific tips

im plannin 2. i have a few options in mind.....bangkok, auckland or if i have company then to kerela (south india)
cos il get bullied if i go alone.

I'm planning a trip to the North bit of India...haven't been to India at all so I'm thinking that there's a high chance that we'll be bullied too, even though he has been there before......

Bullied?? Dun think so, coz people in India definately speak English(better than Thailand or Vietman). So chances of getting Bullied for language are less..

Hope u have Dharamshala on ur list. i was there in july.....simply spectacular

Myself am still looking for XMAS/NY backpacking trip.
Last years I went to Uganda (2005) and for trekking in Yunnan (2006).
Actually am thinking to go back to amazing Uganda, inclusive a few days on Banda Island see fe

one remark about India, I backpacked in Rajastan before for 6 weeks, and it was definately fascinating culture but unfortunately the overall experience was not very nice due to the continuous hassle as soon as I stepped out my hostel/hotel, you simply won't be left alone -even if you give in and hire someone such as guide, rikshaw driver etc. they still try to cheat you - you simply can't trust anyone you meet! it's a pity that these ever present tricksters ruin it depsite the majority of population is genuine and friendly!
Possibly that's what's the story of love and hate India is about, think twice as India is rewarding but hard for backpackers - be prepared!

Ok this will be my last post for tonight, but a great and nearly unexplored backpakers destination worth considering is Bangladesh. No hassle - just be prepared for curiosity and great hospitality! A multiday river cruise on a paddle steamer is much recommended!
Flights are a bit more expensive than those on India but you will have the chance to fly the last DC10 passenger plane flying on Singapore (Biman Bangladesh)

Some great destinations out there.
Im contemplating of backpacking from the southern part of Thailand. Maybe do a lil island hopping for a few days at Ko Phi Phi, Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ng and attend the infamous FULL MOON PARTY in December. Then moving upwards to Bangkok for a few days more before flying home.
