Singapore Expats

Hi,

All being well i'll be relocating to Singapore in the early new year to take up a new job. SCUBA diving is a real passion of mine, just wondering if there are any clubs / groups that people can point me in the direction of.

Not really interested in the hardcore 'go deep, go long' types, I'm much more interested in the social type clubs with nice chilled out people who fancy a beer after a few dives.

If you could point me in the right direction that would be great!

there's many Dive Shops in Singapore, organising weekendtrips away and also day trips in singapore during monsoon season in indonesia and malaysia, allthough vis is not the best in spore ;o) but def an experience !

When will you be relocating to Spore? I am diving with Dolphinscuba, very relaxed leisure dives. Can pm you more details once you're here !

Just got back from a dive in Thailand where I did my refresher after 5 years of no diving. (No dive spots where I was living).

I'm hooked again and looking for people to dive with. Please let me know if any of you are interested.

Got a couple of Private messages re:diving, but something about this site. Kept getting messages that I can't reply privately because I haven't got enough posts to this site.

So anyways, for those of you who are interested in learning how to dive, and want to know where I did it, here's what I ended up doing.

I looked up the internet and looked for dive schools in Thailand. I found a couple of places on Koh Tao which have dive classes and accomodations as one package. Then I shopped about for costs etc.

Even when accounting for the airticket, it was cheaper for me to fly to Koh Tao (Koh Samui works just as well, but less people and cheaper in Koh tao), stay for 1 week, do my classes and dive training, and do 14 dives to get my PADI open water and PADI advanced. Plus a few fun night and other dives.

I won't say which school I went on the website, just in case it comes across as promoting one particular school over another. Here's what I will suggest though, check the PADI site for 5 star schools. I think these are the ones that are qualified to train instructors. Then shop around.

If you REALLY want to know which school I went with, drop me a private mail.

Actually Koh Samui doesn't work as well, because there's no decent diving in the immediate vicinity and you'll just end up going to Koh Tao almost every day anyway.

And please feel free to recommend your school/instructor if they were good, the Koh Tao market is extremely competitive and many of the operators suck.

may I know where is Koh Tao and what flight gets you there? TIA

hi there - i just dropped you a PM with my contact details on there, would love to meet some like minded divers and see if we can't organise some trips.

I've been checking out Perhentian & Sipadan in Malaysia - though they would be week long trips i'd imagine, closer to home Paulo Tioman is an easy weekend dive spot, takes a few hours by direct ferry form Singapore. Or a 25min flight if your brave enough )

Anyway drop me a line and we can hook up for a beer, along with anyone else who's interested.

Island off the eastern coast of Thailand. No airport on the island itself, but the one on Koh Samui is under an hour's boat ride away and has direct flights from Singapore on Bangkok Airways.

thanks, heard of Koh Samui but koh tao is definitely new to me. now I should check out if it's worth exploring.

Ok, firstly i'm not an expat per se since i got a PR here quite some time back but this is the scuba forum with the most activity! =S

Now, the main issue. Anybody up for diving in Pulau Dyang/Aur sometime in March? I'll be taking my PADI Advanced Diver Course so if anyone else wants to take it too, then that'll be awesome.

For the Open Water Training, I'd recommend doing the Training via a Singapore Dive Shop, most do theory and pool here and open water training in Malaysia. This way, when you get to go to Thailand or other great dive sites, you get to really enjoy it, and don't need to waste the time and dives with Training ;o)
Also, compared to many other countries, dive courses are super cheap in Singapore.

hi I m new on singapore, love to go for some short dive trip. If anyone organise 1 for expat, please update me at [email protected] I got my advance 1 year back, have around 30 dives exp.
