What is your favorite Pizza in town?

I recently have discovered this little hawker pizza/Italian place, at Bukit Merah, in Alexander Village. It is called Il Piccolo. They are wonderful! the price is very reasonable, and the pizza is about the best I have had! They also have this gnocchi with asparagus, simply great! and I think they deliver too!

Oh, and Da Paolo pizza joint at Chip Bee Gardens is also pretty good.

What are your favorites?

will try those but so far in over 3 years have not had good pizza in Singapore, though a few places would fall into the 'not bad' category

...but am quite enjoying it in NY at the moment, have already had great pizza a few times on this trip

the pizza chef says it's all in the water, which is the same rationale given by bagel chefs as to why NY bagels taste better than anywhere else

based on my experience I'm going to have to agree

mind you "American pizza" is not exactly the same as "Italian pizza"

There's a pretty good 'American' Pizzeria at Raffles City called The Pizza Place which is pretty good taking that your a Pizza addict who love your pizzas by the slice. That's right, proper slices folks.

There's also the NY' Pizza which is not like anything you'd have in NYC.So yeah do not go to NY Pizza looking for some proper slices but serving a serious case of empty promises.

For the good ol' Italian thin crusted pizzas, I'd recommend Ricciotti. It's the 3rd branch by renowned Italian Restaurant, Garibaldi, serves some pretty good Italian favorites. It's also a deli as well.

And last, I'd recommend La Forketta which serves pretty good Ravioli as well as having an extensive pizza menu.

That's my take on pizzas and here are some links for address and such.

no, just a lack of good food here, and looking for something that may taste like back home

never heard of pizza fanatics or addicts before, like anything else, it's just something some people want to have from time to time and when so, to have it taste good and not like sh*t on a shingle as it can be here

In general pizza in Singapore bites, if you want a good one, go to Michaelangelo at H Village and ask the chef to make you a traditional thin crust sicilian pizza.

EADG, the NY pizza are excellent, having ate them for many years, but it is got NOTHING to do with water (nyc got some of the foulest tap in US, expected from a mega city), it is got everything to do with the people. The key to good pizza is to find a large, critical mass of Italians, the rest take care of itself

I'm one of them

as far as tap water is concerned, it's common knowledge that despite what it may seem, that NY's is very good, so not sure where you get your info from

water is key for good pizza crust and bagels, also sort of common knowledge among us NYers and why they don't taste as good upstate or elsewhere

the water thing was reiterated by Sal last week, a guy who runs an excellent pizza joint in Pomona NY - I see him every time I go home, amazing stuff

Common Knowledge NYC tap is better than the surrounding counties and upstate? - only if your water heavy (rich in metal). Assume you know NYC's history - it was 1/30 of its size today when it was New Amersterdam, and the only way to expand (since it was surrounded by Marshland) was sinking enormous abandoned house, factory, ships and general trash to fill the water and canals and build the city we see above them. Guess what - the NYC water system run through those same stuff today. Compare that to water use by people in Somers, Bedford, Wappingers etc etc, which are water from lakes of mountains near by. I will take my chance with the mountain water anyday (and you can check that for yourself on the EPA or NYS water regulation website). You are right water is very important to pizza making, but it also is important to pretty much all food and drink creations! And one of the reason UpState NY create some of the excellent microbrew vs the lack of from NYC is exactly because of water. But NYC does have some of the highest concentration of Italians along with Jersey, Chicago and Boston and therefore all four places have excellent pizza.

So basicall pizza sucks here. I have tried Rocky's, Canadian etc. First thing that is annoying about Singapore pizza is the 2 for 1 deals. Why even have that!? Also good pizza like in the tri-state of the US, NY,NJ,CT, the pizza is about the bread, tomato sauce and cheese. Toppings are an added plus but a lot of people get just plain cheese pizza and it is great. Here every pizza comes with 50 toppings, almost trying to drown the pizza with other toppings so to hide the hideous creation below. I understand the water deal but I think in Singapore probably has to do with the people making it and the what Singaporeans look for in Pizza, which quite different from NYC standards.

agree Quik, although back home I only occasionally get a topping or two, like in Japan people here think it strange to have pizza without toppings, whereas that's how we usually have it

and yes, like having warm sake, a lot of toppings masks the quality of the underlying product

I wouldn't say it all sucks, though, it's just not as satisfying - some of the better Italian resturants serve decent pizza; some of the local places have some pretty dire varieties, like that rooftop resturant in HV

BTW to be fair I've yet to try out Scud's recommendations above, they may prove to be good

You don't need to go to a fancy restaurant to have good pizza in Singapore.

Steering away from the US style deep pan pizza I have found ICE COLD BEER to have consistently good pizza.

Coupled with an ice cold stella and Bob's your uncle.

Well known and established that New York city has excellent tap water and that absolutely has a direct effect on it's pizza. The flour, the oven, the chefs, the burnt corn meal on the bottom, all play important roles. :)

I like a spizza for thin crust pizza here in Singapore, but not delivered, it's so thin it can't hold the heat.
