Singapore Expats

We are expecting our first child in early may and have yet to find a nanny , is there anybody out there who knows of a good nanny that would be available around this time, maybe your friends are moving on and would like to see a good nanny settled with a nice couple?

i m also expecting my first baby end of this april...my opinion is that if you are not working, i dont think you ll need a fulltime nanny...

congratulations on your pregnancy. it is an exciting time isnt it! Perhaps if you feel you need help, you might consider getting someone to come in and do some cleaning and/or cooking for you. That will leave you with more time to focus on the baby for a bit. Funnily enough, when you have a baby, and you have people around you to help with the baby (be it family, or a nanny), YOU are the one who ends up rushing around cleaning up, washing, cooking etc.....while THEY do all the nice stuff.

When you have a brand new little person, its much more fun to spend time with your little one, than time in the kitchen!

if you are talking about cleaning and cooking yep you are right:) i started to have part time maid for cleaning as i dont wanna think about house cleaning and ironing!!! but for cooking hmmmm i donno as i m not a Singaporean and i m not used to have asian food i prefer cooking myself:(

i hope my mom and my sister ll come the time my due...actually i m relying on my mom as she ll stay 1-2 months:) while she cooks and helps me to take care of my baby i m planning to enjoy having a baby:) is there any possibbility that your mom comes?

another thing is i m not a kind of person who feels comfortable with a staying maid-sorry:( i think maybe after a while i can have my parttime maid more days...

i hope you can find a good maid:)

thanks everyone - its difficult as my wife is the big bread winne rin our house and will go back to work after a month or two .

I have also been keen on finding a nanny/helper and would rather prefer someone recommended or transfered from a moving family. What you could do is ask all your friends, co-worker's, etc to keep an ear out.

In the meantime, check out the notice boards at the supermarkets such as Tanglin Marketplace, etc.

i recently found this confinement food service online that delivers to your doorsteps. never tried and don't know anyone who's tried, but it may be an option for you if you don't have any help with the kitchen.

Hi twisterr, if possible i would like to stay in confinement maid as both of us do need someone who can guide us to take care our baby as well as taking my wife after the delivery. Any recommendation? Sorry for very late reply as i'm outstation. THANKS!

Heloo...i'll keep a lookout for you..i'm a part time babysitter but stay in is not possible as i'm working at a preschool in the morning..

hi there, I just had a baby last month and hired a confinement lady. At first, I was not too sure of having one since this was my first experience. However, I can tell you that my confinement lady was excellent. She helped me recovery from my awful csection operation as well as take 24 hour care of my newborn. My confinement lady is from Malaysia and speaks excellent English and is super clean (2-3 showers a day!). She also cooked confinement foods and soups and will listen to what your needs are. Also, I told her not to rock the baby to sleep and she listened. her name is Auntie Maggie (Kuan) and her number is 016 504 6036.

I usually let these go, but I'm crabby from too little sleep and not feeling very politiclly correct so here goes:

Unless she's being interviewed by Mike Rowe* this is a clear indication of someone an obsessive-cumpulsive disorder.

You don't seem to have any fundamental knowledge of SEA culture. In Malaysia (particularly for native Malays) and most of these countries, it is important to bathe at least twice a day to maintain cleanliness. If she is also Muslim, then she will also wash her hands and feet before each prayer (5 times a day).

Note: Don't anyone take the above as saying that the people are dirty. What I'm refering to is the environment, not the people. If you're too dim to see the difference, or too illiterate to read the entire post, that's your problem not mine

I have plenty of knowledge of local culture, thanks Jeppo. That doesn't make the poster any less dim. Are you going to tell me next how many Malays think soups are not really food and confinement nurses should take care of newborns 24 hours a day instead of their parents?

Washing before prayer and showering are two, entirely different things.
