Singapore Expats

Hi,i am a malaysian & my wife is a japanese so both of us working in singapore. Is it possible to have our new born baby to get two citizen for malaysian & japanese while staying in singapore? I kwn malaysia not allow but japan allow,wat abt singapore?Please advise,thanks

As neither of you are Singaporean it doesn't matter. They could care less. It's only if one of the Citizenships is Singapore that they care about. Apply for Birth cert for Japan and Malaysia. on each parents country. No big deal. The baby won't be a Singaporean anyway even if it is born here.

Thank you for your reply,sorry for late reply as i was in a urgent job last few weeks.. As you said they couldn't bother if i'm not singaporean but wat if me or my wife apply for singaporean PR would that be any problem?

Still no problem. Unless the child takes up PR as well. Then, if the child is male he will be liable for NS eventually. As far as dual citizenship is concerned, unless one is a Citizen the child cannot be a Singapore Citizen by the act of being born here. Even if the mother is a PR she is not a citizen of Singapore therefore no Singaporean Citizenship for the child.

I am Malaysian and my wife is Japanese (I guess same as Inspector) and we are expecting our newborn in a couple of weeks time, we're living in Singapore as Singapore PR.

Does anyone know how to go about getting both Malaysian and Japanese passport ?

According to Sundaymorningstaple we can do it without getting the PR for the baby.

I have a question. If the baby is not taking up PR, do you know what kind of pass is the baby holding to stay in Singapore ? (dependent's pass, etc..etc ??)

After the baby is born, registered the baby's birth with your respective embassies or consulates. They will give you a birth certificate of a citizen born abroad. The child will possibly have dual citizenship if you register with both respective countries. This is something you will have to investigate on you own whether they (your home country) will allow dual citizenship or not. If not, then you have to use your head and decided which way will be the most beneficial in the long term.

Meanwhile, you apply for a Dependant's pass in Singapore for the Baby or apply for PR, your choice, but if you choose PR and it's a male child that could mean the child is liable for National Service when he is 18.

I am asking because the baby surely need to get some form of document/visa or PR in order to resides here right ?

As strict as Singapore is I would think they would use only the passport which is of the same country of the mother. This makes logical sense as the baby would normally travel with the mother and not the father. However, to be honest, I don't know the answer. I'm just using logic here.
