Singapore Expats

Does anyone know where I can change coins for dollars? We've been going to Standard Charter but they only do this on Tues/Thurs from 10 - 11am. In the states and UK you can dump them into a machine in the supermarket - I'm wondering if anyone has seen that here? We have 2 unusually full piggy banks.

Most banks will do but I believe they charge a few and only do on certain days at certain times. Right now banks will be jammed because people changing for new notes to put in Ang Po Packets.

The info below is from Singapore Mint website and I believe that the machine is similar to the Coinstar ones found in the UK.

The coin deposit is the same exercise done at banks where you can deposit your coins in exchange for banknotes. However, please note that we do charge a nominal fee to cover the cost of processing the coins. This is generally cheaper than bank charges.

For every 1000 pieces of coins (regardless of denomination), the charges are at S$3.50 and the balance coins are pro-rated accordingly (i.e. 300 pieces /1000 pieces X 3.50 = S$1.05). All prices stated are subjected to 7% GST charges.

There are coin deposit machines now run by POSB at many locations. Two locations I know of are Tiong Bahru Plaza and Cpf Building at Jurong East CEntral. You can deposit any number of coins anytime of the day (24 hours). You will have to pay 7 cents per 100 pieces. You will get a receipt that shows the total amount due to you which you will have to pick up at a POSB branch.

Unsure who unstuck this so have re-stuck it so it doesn't get lost.

There's also one at Seng Kang (Compass Point) and Boon Keng MRT Station..

From what I understand, each piece of coin is charged a Service Charge of $0.007 (Incl GST).. The charges will be waived off for deposit made into any Children Savings Account for 12yrs Old and Below

Silly question why not just go to a bank and get the coins?

ah they sell the traditional food: chee cheong fun, yam cake and porridge. pretty good really. if you're near jurong we can transact there and i should really treat you to a good meal of it.

if jurong's a pain to travel to, suggest a favorable area and i'll meet you there aight?

and we wont need the 5c because we dont have prices denominated in .05 but if you need to get rid of them i'll take them as well

I just try to use my debit card as much as possible to avoid the stack up of coins.

The most irritating thing is when you buy something that cost like $2.05. 1 simple plastic note turns into some 5-6 bulky coins
