Singapore Expats

I've been doing a bit of research on this and I'm glad to say that I've found that I'm not the only one in this predicament!

My mother was born in Singapore, and my father was carrying a US passport when I was born, November 1991. I lived in Hong Kong for the first four years of my childhood until we moved back to Singapore, when my father got his PR (I believe.) We then moved back to Hong Kong when I was mid-way through P6 (Not sure how old I was?) When we moved back, the plan was that I'd take up an American passport, and stop using the Singaporean passport until I conformed to the criterion required for renunciation of my Singapore citizenship. I then got a US passport two years ago, and since then I have used that to travel, even into Singapore. Since my 16th birthday, however, I have not entered Singapore.

We are asking for deferral of NS until I am 21, at which point in time I will then renounce my citizenship. The Singapore consulate, however, has asked for my mother to sever all ties with Singapore, at which point they will then reconsider the situation. My mother has therefore renounced her citizenship and has taken up a Hong Kong SAR Passport.

What are my chances of receiving a deferral? I'm planning on going straight to flight school in Adelaide after completing Year 13 here, and I really do not wish for my plans to be disrupted.

Hazarding a guess I would think only the government would know that.

Sorry, I meant to say that since receiving my US passport, I have not used my Singaporean Passport!

So basically, Got my US passport at 14, used that to enter Singapore until I turned 16, which from then on I haven't stepped into Singapore.

So what you ARE saying is that you used your Singapore Passport to travel and whatever after the age of 11 up to the age of 14. Correct? If so, you have benefited from being a Singapore Citizen ( there terms not mine). I'm not laying any odds whatsoever.

It doesn't matter if you used the passport, it matters if you had the passport. So what age were you when your Sg passport expired?

He had to have a valid passport while he was in Hong Kong, so even if he got his US passport at 14 as he was a Singaporean Citizen, he had to have a valid Singapore passport while he was in Hong Kong up till that time.

I have 2 boys, 15 years old and 17 years old. They were 11 and 9 years old when we left singapore . We were afraid to break any singapore law, we travel back to singapore every 2 years before their passport expires so that we do not need to furnish a 75K for each child.
Although, they have acquired another citizenship now but singapore gov do not allow them to renounce their singapore citizenship until they reach 21 years old, reason being they recognsie dual citizenship below the age of 21 years old. Wrote to them about deferment, until 21 years old but not approved. Only allowed deferment till they finish their high school. If you have not written to them to ask for deferment till 21 years old, I think you will get arrested at the airport . You must apply for deferment till 21 years old when you were 16 or 17 years old and must be approved by them.
The other reason, I think we did not get our approval for deferment till 21 years old was becos we used singapore passport even after 11 years old
