Singapore Expats

Hi all,
Would anyone be interested in an English-Cantonese language exchange? I'm an American from the midwest so I have a pretty neutral American accent. Not that I'm looking for anyone with any special skills, but you should know I'm just starting to learn now and I really just need someone to help me read through conversations (from a book) and help me practice basic sentence patterns/vocabulary. I'm not sure but that may be kind of boring so I wanted to let you know before we start. I'm not a complete beginner though, and I'm not a moron either so don't let that discourage you
Well let me know if you're interested and when you're available. I'm a student so my schedule is probably more flexible than yours.
Oh and I should mention that I'm really interested in learning the HK dialect so please no Malay unless you can really speak like a HK'er, >< sorry!

may i know why you are interested in learning Cantonese? can briefly tell us about your background?
I have a book teaching Cantonese though, can dig it out and lend it to you if you are really interested.

But frankly speaking, you need a lot of practice to master Cantonese.
BTW, I'm from HK and living here for 7 years.

Hey, sorry for the delay but i had lots of tests last week since it's the middle of the semester!
I'm an exchange student at NUS from the US. I got here last August and I will most likely go home in May but I'm considering taking some Cantonese classes in HK over the summer... we'll see.
I like to study languages and there's no 'requirement' that I reach fluency or anything like that although that doesn't mean I'll give up next week. I've been studying Japanese for a few years now so I'm no stranger to difficult languages. The reason I chose Cantonese and why I'm starting right now is because of my girlfriend but I also have friends back home from HK and abc's who speak it. My girlfriend is back in HK now and I don't want to cut into our already limited contact time or else I'd have her help me.
Can I ask what book you have? I have Teach Yourself Cantonese (book) and some other book/cd downloaded but I'd prefer a more textbook-type book if there is one (I can't even find one online!). If you've got something like that it would be great!

I am from HK so i do speak native cantonese, so i guess it is quite suitable.
