ok.. i know this is events and gathering but i doubt anyone looks @ the "BEAUTY and what not" section

so, can any of the dudes or dudettes recommend a good hair salon? i need to fix my faux hawk...its all over the place...ai ai ai...

preferably near Dhoby ghaut or Bugis MRT

i'd recommend Ginrich at Wheelock Place. The stylists are professional, quick and they actually listen to what you want and provide suggestions.

I got mine done at a Hong Lim HDB shop, $8. The young lady is nice & honest, listen to what you want & give you her own view.

Dun need to find that near bugis or douby ghaut. U can take mrt n drop off nearer to places like boon keng(North east line) to get decent cuts n quite cheap too. If u drive then boon keeng is definitely very close to ya bugis n douby ghaut.

There are quite a few salons at Raffles MRT station, The Arcade, on ground floor and 3rd floor.

Tell me about it! I went for a trim, and my 7 year old daughter calls me botak now Even my wife laughed at me I said it was too bloody late, after the lawn mower had run riot once! I can live with it

If you dont mind spending a bit more for a great haircut or color, I would recommend MIBUN hair salon. *think BEAUTY SHOP- the movie*

Boston, there's a very good salon in Park View Square opposite Bugis. It's called Le Papillon. NOT cheap!

From one faux hawk wearer to another, unfortunately, my only advice is that "cheap" and "good" don't seem to coexist when it comes to haircuts/salons here. Although admittedly I am very particular about the way my hair is cut.

Like many things in Singapore (clothing, housing, furniture, etc.) there is either the high-end or the low-end of the market , with not much middle ground to be found. In my early days here I kept trying the places in the $20-40 range that my local friends suggested and always came away looking like the bastard love child of a Taiwanese pop star and Edward Scissorhands.

To be frank, I think many of the "local" places are probably quite skilled at handling the local clientele but are not used to cutting Caucasian hair. My current stylist (who is Chinese Singaporean) said it took him awhile to get used to cutting Caucasian hair because the texture, thickness, growth patterns, shape, etc. are significantly different from Asian hair.

So the long and short of it (no pun intended) is that if you want a quality fro, get ready to pay $75-100 for it.

My personal suggestion is Toni & Guy at the Heeren, which is just one stop down from you at the Somerset MRT stop. Pricey yes, but the quality is quite high and I've tried a number of different stylists there and always came away happy.
