Singapore Expats

Hey folks,

I thought i saw posts about places to go to (besides Sim Lim) to check out hi-end Audio/video gear for a home theater but i cant seem to find it anymore.

I brought my Bowers & wilkins 7s and now need to get a 42" LCD, A/V receiver and a subwoofer.

I checked out Sim lim today and found out that most of the TVS are 110 & 220 and multi-system so it'll work in the US!! That means i dont have to sell it when i leave next year. So, question, where do i go to look for hi end audio/video gear.

Best Denki is a good bet with a large range. Also Gain City, Harvey Norman, and there are a couple of others who sell or push off old stock or last years models on you like Courts or Audio House (with those two you buys your ticket and takes your chances.

think SMS is being a little harsh on Audio house there but do be careful. you need to know what you want. 4th or 5th gneeration LCD panel...8 or 10 bit color depth

High end audio = adelphi mall, opposite funan centre

I suggest going to Havery Norma, Best Denki or Courts.

You can pay by installments by various credit card and they offer 5 year extended warranty.

Most impt you can bargain with them for the best price. Check out the price elsewhere before you engage them in a bargain.

I want to compare the price of electronics

I want to check if its worth me shipping my Sony KDL-40W2000 TV to singapore from London or selling it here and buying it there.

Try Paris Silk at Holland Village. They offer great prices for electronics. Another well-known shop among Singaporeans is the Mega Discount Stall at Katong Mall (the one where Cold Storage is, opposite Katong Laksa).

Anyone went to the PC Show? Generally good deals can be found before closing.

there is only one place to go get high end audio (and some visual) gear.

it's at THE ADELPHI (name of bulding) which is right across from FUNAN CENTER.

take a train ride to city hall and turn left when you exit. up the last escalator and you turn left again and walk straight.

follow your nose to find where the smell of fresh amps is emanating from...

shop carefully! make sure you leave your checkbook and credit cards and cash at home the first time you go there.

THAT PLACE HAS MAGICAL POWERS WHICH SUCKS ALL THE MONEY OUTTA PEOPLE...

to be replaced by lovely beautiful equipment... that teases and excites thy ears and eyes....

I got a samsung series 3 32" LCD for $819! it was the "samsung" on the front of the LCD that sold me actually haha!

could i ask what's the model and how much cheaper was it compare with the likes of best denki, giant, courts, etc.
