Singapore Expats

Hi I'm on a dependant pass and my husband on an EP. I'd like to get into the Real Estate business but I have been informed that I need to be a PR to be able to do so.

In this case can I, being a dependent, apply for PR? Or can it be only if my husband applies for a PR first- followed by me? He isnt very interested in changng his status to a PR because it means more tax implications form him.

I believe you can apply to work on a freelance basis, ask for the LOC at MOM and find a real estate agency to take you on a freelance basis, although you can only freelance for the company that fills in the LOC. unless you start your own business.

Your LOC is linked to your husbands EP, so when his runs out, you must stop, because it is only because of him, that you are here in Singapore, he must apply for PR first. Unless you have qualifications to seek employment pass in your own right.

If I may ask, which country are you from, and what experience do you have in the real estate business, the reason i ask, is becuase I am also in the process of finishing a business plan for the real estate business.

Thanks for replying. I have been following the Real Estate business very closely for the past 2 years. My father is also in Real Estate and I have worked closely with him in this area. However, I am yet to obtain practical work ex in Real Est in Singapore.

Last yr I applied to be a RE agent with a big agency in Singapore but the process had to stop bcoz I was not a PR.

If I understand you correctly, I can work as an agent if I obtain a freelance status to work from MOM?

Thats what i believe because MOM had told me, when i was on dependant pass, I was freelancing when i first arrived, for overseas, companies, so I went to enquire about what i should do, they said if i wanted to freelance, just find a company to sign the LOC.

I have a friend who is an agent, he just took, courses that they offered, although it really is hard, because of the competition. So even though you are not yet a PR, I believe you can still take the agents courses to, then just setup your own business or apply for freelance.
