Just something I saw in my email regarding the use of SMS

Take note....
Don't take things for granted...
It can happen to anyone of us....


A True Story:

This lady has changed her habit onthe hand phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, credit card, purse etc. was stolen.

Twenty minutes later when she called her hubby, telling him what had happened, her hubby says 'I've just received your SMS asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.'

When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff to ld them all the money was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen handphone to sms 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.

Moral of the story:

Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart,

Dad, Mum etc......and very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked thru SMS, CONFIRM by calling back.

Yeah, it's a shame people have to be reminded to use common sense.

The moral of the story should be: Use your common sense.




(Although some may say Common Sense is not so Common..)

i know a kid lost his mobile fone, a police officer found it and going thru the contact list found a contact name MUM. sure enuf the mobile fone was return to the kid.

how much can you withdraw from the bank with just the pin number?

i think it's S$3000/day at the ATM.

It varies, quite alot, and one can set one's own limit, providing the card company agrees to it, or the bank, not sure who gives the go ahead....there is also a limit on how much can be spent within a month.... I found that out, when i went above the limit! It's set mostly for security rather than debt control, although I am talking about a foreign bank too. Not local, which may have different rules again.

UK banks often set the limit as £250-£500 depending on the type of card and account status. Mobile phones are usually capped at £200 in case of theft.

then the max they lost is probably not more than 3k.

i dont find this story true enough.

aiyah... they local mah. make it more dramatic lor, maybe to claim insurance or something.

I'm calling BS on this...

Who shares a PIN number with their partner? My gf and I have a joint account - she has her own card and unique PIN just like I do. We both know each others, but come on... What a load of bull...
