I am quite an IT-Idiot, so appreciate all help and comments. I have been using Apple Powerbook G4 for 2 years now.

Recently, I bought a web-cam, and would like to use it with instant messenging application. Anyone have any idea which program I should use?

I tried AMSN but it doesn't seems to work. I cant view the other side, and the other side cant view from my webcam either. The normal MSN just keep hanging.

When I tried Yahoo, it will hang after 5 mins or so, or I can't do a two-way conference. I have also tried iChat but it is recognise the existance of the web-cam. Adium is quite stable but it does not allow web-cam-ing.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I use Macs myself but configuring cams can be a little tricky. I am a bit puzzled by your post as a webcam I bought before I had Macs has it's own program? What make of webcam do you have and was a disk provided?

I cant remember the brand off hand, but its one of the popular travel brands (the one that produce plugs, etc), and it is compatible to MAC. There is a disk that comes with it, and it have an installer specific for MAC as well. I managed to install it successfully, but when I use it, the camera just keep hanging...

In all honesty I can only guess at what the problem might be. A quick call to a qualified technician suggests it is most likely the drivers. Despite the claim that such products are plug n' play this is not always the case. As an American once said 'shrug and pray' would be a better description.

You could try updating the drivers from the cam company's website and if that fails contact their technical support as there could be an unknown fault with the camera or some other issue yet to come to light, it happens.

on Macs MSN webcaming doesn't work and isn't enabled. The only ones that I have found that work with Macs is AIM or iChat or Skype. Not alot of the others are particularly good anyway.

There is a website, that I can't remember off-hand, that had drivers for Macs and alot of webcams. Do a google search forf Mac webcam drivers. I think that'll bring something up for you.

I tried http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ but, when I tried to install it, it asked me which program i will like to use to open the file... Subsequently, it hang my laptop...

what file did you download? a .dmg file?
