Car Parks in Singapore

Hi everyone,

My husband and I just purchased a new car and have really enjoyed driving around the island so far. Since picking up the car last week, we have parked in various malls such as Katong Mall, Parkway Parade and Paragon.

That is, until yesterday. I am 6.5 months pregnant and had an appointment with a specialist at Mount Elizabeth hospital. At 2:30pm, the hospital car park was full. So I tried Paragon which was also full and the line just to enter the car park was about 10 cars long with no cars exiting.

I tried Mount Elizabeth again and tried the valet service which was also full. After driving around for 25 minutes, I finally found a spot in a parking station about 10 minute walk from the hospital.

I'm curious, was it just a one time thing? Or are the car parks around Orchard ALWAYS that busy on a weekday? I have lots of appts coming up at the hospital and don't want to be in the same situation every time.

Has anyone else had these problems? My worst fear is that people are parking at Mt Elizabeth and going off to do their shopping on Orchard Road which leaves patients, like me, very frustrated!

Sad to say but parking is really an issue in that area. :( Better just take a cab (book in advance so you'll be pick up from your home). Or you can be like them and use the valet parking services of hotels near that place. If you can't beat them, join them. :P

I won't park at the hospital if I'm going shopping around Orchard... it's expensive there! Most likely it's the other way round... park at the surrounding buildings and go to Mt E.

PP is right, best to take a cab or bus/ MRT.

But if you still want to drive, either come earlier and wait... there will be a space for you.
Or park at Ngee Ann City and walk to Mt. E... good luck!

Thanks for the feedback.

I would prefer to drive, since we have this lovely new car! There is always heaps of spaces free in Ngee Ann, but it's over $1 per 30 minutes!

Funny..... :) 75 pence an hour in UK in the cheap areas about 2$ and hour, and you think Singapore is expensive?........You could also sell the new car, and get a cheaper one, so you will have money to pay for the parking

Ha!It could also be Singaporeans car park at 50 cents and expat car parks at 1$... :) They think we are all stupid

Problem is foreigners are not prepared to get up at 4.a.m to make sure we get a cheap parking ticket, hence all the places are gone by 6 a.m

I noticed outside my house, this guy hanging around 10 minutes or so, his car was parked right outside my home, and i thought strange what's he keep looking around for....then came the parking attendants, and he was off like a flash, for the sake of 50 cents...is the stress really worth it

Not in your case, you don't want a premature delivery, just cough up, the extra $, and bill your hubby, it's all his fault :P
