Singapore Expats

Just arrived last Wednesday and my company initially put me up in a hotel until I find a place to stay. Have viewed some condos and we really liked this unit at East Meadows (layout, finish, furnishings) plus the fact that it is accessible (the Tanah Merah MRT is just across). Unfortunately, among the condos we've viewed, this was the furthest from the office (Keppel Road area). As I will be provided with a car, any idea how much the travel time will be during morning/evening rush hour? Did notice how long we had to travel as we were hopping from one condo to another and on a Saturday, at that. Agent said should be manageable (30 mins through ECP).

For my wife who also plans to work, how long will the commute be from Tanah Merah MRT (green line) to, say, Novena MRT (red line)?

Also appreciate your thoughts on this part of Singapore to live in. Have heard that this is a nice area for families. Cheers to all!

Hello pinoy, bedok reservoir has a increasing foreign population because of the nice enviornments and beautiful views of the lake. My pakistani friend bought a unit there and is asking me to go over as well.

What do you know of that area?

I live in Pasir Ris and commute to Beach road (about half-way in between Lavendar and Bugis stations). The total commute time is about 45 minutes. About 10 minutes longer than when I lived in Manhattan.

If both home and work are close to the MRT stations, then you certainly won't have more than an hour commute on public transport. (Hopefully, someone else will be able to give you advice about commuting times by private car...)

As far as commuting standards go in most other places of the world, there really isn't ANY commute into the CBD that is bad.

Don't know really much about that area but the atmosphere seems more relaxed/laid-back compared to city living. My agent said many people from the east coast rarely go to the city for leisure/recreational/shopping/dining purposes. Hope your friend can share his experience. Thanks!

Thanks. I reckon then that commute from Tanah Merah to Novena (14 MRT stops after, with transfer at City Hall) should be about that long as well. My office in Keppel Road is also less that 1 km away from the Tanjong Pagar MRT so commute time should be shorter (less stops away and no transfer - same line). I'm hoping though that others can share travelling time by car to Keppel Road.

I drive from bayshore to TJ Pagar everyday(by ECP). The time on the road depends.If you wanna go to work at 9:00,there will be a terrible jam waiting for you.If there was an accident on ECP(happened every week) or rainy day,things go worse.I think you will spend about 45 mins from your place to the office(or even more, kappel road always jams ). In the evening,the jam will be from ED prince to M vista, it will take you more time to get home.

For your wife,from your place to Novena will take about 1 hour by MRT

PS:I don't think you can walk from MRT station to your office,1km is a quite long distance to walk in Singapore at daytime

East is a area of life style by its own. That is why so many of us are so interested in tanjong rhu. Now the problem with that area is that the asking prices are no longer resonable. I would even say for waterplace, the prices are very high!

I reckon you are mentioning Bayshore in the Bedok area. If so, then I need to allot 45 mins to 1 hour drive. If my wife also drives to Novena (assuming she doesn't want to take the MRT, which are too crowded), do you think she'll also need an hour? Thanks.

Sorry man I have no idea about it because I never go to there in the morning,actually I know nothing about the north part of Singapore...It won't save you a lot of time if you didn't go by express way

We live in Siglap, and one of us works in the CBD and the other in HarbourFront. We walk to the east coast road - ist 5 mins you always get a cab within 5 mins (so no booking fee). we go into work early say 7.15-7.30 and get in to the office by 7.40-7.45am. It cost about 12$ to the CBD and total of $16. In the evening its cheaper - depends when you leave work (ERP) or you can take the 10e from the CBD and that takes about 45mins and costs a few dollars. Siglap rocks - everything you need is there - get a bike and go down to the East Coast park on an evening - awesome

Given that you have a car - get up early - leave home at 7.15am - and its a breeze - you can then leave early say 5pm and again a breeze. takes about 20 minutes. You are in the office before everyone else - can get a ton of work done. Or you could go to the gym.

i think it takes 1 hour 30 mins maximum to go to your workplace from pasir ris mrt to novena mrt counting the bus you have to take estimated
