Singapore Expats

I am thinking of moving to Singapore. I've been there before for a semester, and always had trouble finding clothing in my size.

I am 6'6" (2meters). Wear 36x36 pants and wear a shoe size US 15 (~50). I'm wondering if anyone knows where someone my size can get shoes/pants/socks in Singapore. I know there are many tailors, but sometimes I just want to walk into a store and pick out some jeans/slacks.

I'm not looking forward to dragging two suit cases full of shoes and pants to Singapore

well, for clothes.. there are several outlets that sells clothes for bigger size people.. there are a few located in town areas..but as for the shoes.. hmm.. im not really that sure.. but i guess there's always some shops that are hidden somewhere around here in singapore do have thou!

Try Takashimaya on Orchard Road (near Orchard Station), they keep American sizes, at least they did last time I was there.

Having a size 15 shoe myself, I regret to inform you that you're screwed. Really expensive cobblers can do custom dress shoes, and sports shoe stores (esp. in Alexandra) usually have a couple of large-size sneakers ugly enough to make their mom cry hanging around, but that's about all I've found in five years here.

Tip: Bring a good pair of sandals with you, ideally something without leather parts to rot. You'll be wearing them a lot, and finding anything sturdier than a flip-flop in large sizes seems to be nearly impossible.

Make sure you have good health insurance for your back after carrying those two heavy suitcases!

Seriously though, if you are a large size man or woman with big/wide feet, you are going to save all your money for when you can go home to go on a buying spree. It is not a place for us. Good luck!

i have to agree that large sizes are generally not available. For shoes though I have found one place that stocks my size 47-48 - reasonably reliably and will order for you as well. its Feder Sports in peninsular plaza- they obviously do sports shoes but also have a range of work shoes (ecco, my favourite brand, rockport etc) and are generally happy to spend the time with you to find out what fits best.

other things - i find British India often have clothes that fit, assuming you like the style. I get my work clothes made, which works out about the same as buying of the rack at home in terms of price.

I have rarely found things that fit in the major chains other than Marks & Spencer. Generally though , i buy up big on my trips home, finding underwear, socks etc is a joke here.

One thing that's gaining popularity is getting your clothes delivered from a catalogue shop, like http://www.landsend.com/. Or Marks & Spencers. But local shops definitely won't be able to help, being a 6'4 beefy rugby bloke meant many days finding things to wear here. Shoes especially, it might be worth buying some good quality shoes from home and bringing those, if you can get them to last for a few years.
