My landlord has sold the condo I am renting and the new owners put a condition that they want to move in.

I still have 14 months left on my contract and the landlord wants to change this to 6 months.

Can the landlord do this ?
She seemed to be offering me a deal on the phone.

I am playing 3k now, looking online similar places in the same condo are now going for 4.5k

How about reading the tenacy document?

and whats the deal?, bit like saying how long a piece of string?

I did .. there doesn't appear to be anything in there that could allow the landlord to kick me out ... but from what I have read here in this forum ... seem the landlord is king in Singapore.

I have a 2 year lease that expires in Jul'09

did you pay for the stamp duty when you take up the contract? if you did, then the contract is legit and binding. i think most "standard" tenancy contract is minimum 1 year to break it for a 2 years contract, and you have to give 2 months notice or vice versa. fone up your estate agent to find out more info too.

Don't move unless they can provide alternate place for the same money, otherwise you want compensation, a great deal, to cover the higher rental cost, you also want paying for disruption.. How much do you thing is reasonable...

If the contract is on the ball, don't worry about Landlords are King...they still have to abide by the laws of the contract, even if it isn't stamped, it will be signed.

If you haven't created any "excuses" or breached any terms in the Tenancy agreement, technically, the landlord cannot kick you out.

Instead, he or she might have to pursuade you to move out, either mutally agreement to terminate or compensation.

actually, i would suggest a payout of the remainding rental and return of the security deposit... or something quite as attractive to tide you over the difference from finding another place. instead of looking back at the same location, maybe another condo project may be cheaper.
