Hi does anyone know if you are able to access the BBC iplayer from Singapore?? the same goes for 4OD. Basically they are web based catch up services provided by two TV networks in the UK......

but... you need a PC connected to the internet in the UK. also, have you consider slingbox?

Does this mean I can't just hook up to broadband connection in Singapore and got to the BBC iplayer website and watch catch up tv programs?
How exactly does the slingbox work? I am totally new to this and not exactly technically minded......

because of copyright, you are not allow to watch iplayer, itv or 4oD if you are outside the UK. how they determine where you are is via the geo-ip. if your ip range is not in the UK, then no streaming tv for you. so what you need to do is to point your ip into a UK proxy server.
as for slingbox, all you need to do is to plug the tv aerial in, and network cable into a broadband router in the UK, and then configure the slingbox. the slingbox solo has freeview built-in, therefore you can watch all the freeview channels. on your PC in singapore, you install the slingbox client and point it to the slingbox in UK and that's it.
a slingbox is not "catch up", so if you want to watch your eastender, you need to stay up late!
so this is a break down of what you need and in which country...
UK - a slingbox solo (for freeview or even sky channels if you want! you will need a sky digibox), broadband connection, a router.
singapore - a computer, broadband connection.

Perfect thanks I'll look into getting a slingbox and settting it up before I come out.
How would I point my ip to a proxy server??

you will need to run a proxy PC in the UK. also need to configure your router to port forward the NAT IP to the real IP from your ISP out. on the PC in singapore, you will need to point the proxy setting to your proxy server in the UK.
btw, on the slingbox, the upload speed of your UK ISP is important. most ISP upload speed is 256MBit/s.
