I'm 27yr old aussie recently returned to Aus from 3 years living in UK. My job has just offered to post me to Singapore for at least 12 months and wanting some info/advice on life over there. I'm use to a pretty crazy life - typical Aussie so keen to know if there is anyone out there who enjoys socialising. I love meeting as many new folks as possible but heard Singapore can drive you stir crazy.

I don't know anyone that lives over there but looking to share flat if possible and get out and about as much as I can!

Look forward to hearing from anyone.

G'day Shells,

Plenty of Aussies here. Lots of socialising, also. Check out the FNDC, WNDC and 30s forums - there's always something going on. Come along to a few FNDCs, for example, and you'll meet plenty of people - and there are always new faces at each one.

Singapore can drive you a bit stir crazy, but as with any place you'll find things to do to stop you going completely nuts. It's also a fantastic launch pad to go to other places around the region for weekends, etc.

Possibly the best reason to come here from Oz is the tax rate. I've saved more money here without even trying than I ever did working in Sydney.

Flatsharing is the way to go, if you don't have family coming with you. property rates are quite expensive here, so sharing is the smart thing to do. There are a number of websites here that cater to introducing people with rooms to people looking for one.

Good luck with your decision and maybe see you when/if you get here.

mate, I just love aussie land.. Been studying there for 1.5 yrs in Melbourne and boy I must say, the craziest yr I ever had..

But SIngapore is nice, clean and hot I must say. Dun worry about the locals here. They are fine. Just have to get used to their Singlish.

Enough said, if you need a friend to show u around or drinks, buzz me.

I have been working here for 2 years. So far this is a good place if you're a sports buff for many sporting events are being held here. You will also get to notice many people (locals and foreigners) do run during the weekdays after office and weekends.

If you like travelling, well Singapore is a nice jumping point, if you wanna travel to countries such as malaysia, thailand, indonesia, vietnam, cambodia, philippines... nice and cheap accomodation.

For food, there are a lot of variety, from malay, chinese, indian, western, thai..for in singapore in every block you'll see food stall or food courts known as "hawkers" so better prepare your taste buds.

Places in Singapore are very accessible, you could even walk it out from one poin to the other (tourist spots in central business area). Just explore, have fun and relax!!! ..juzz buzz me at [email protected] if you want company. Cheers!!!
