This is probably a stupid question and I imagine the answer is 'yes', but as I'm in the process of negotiating a package to relocate to Singapore from the UK, could somebody please tell me whether housing allowance is taxable or not?
Many thanks in advance

Yes it is. As well as any other in-kind benefits you may receive as well.

For clarification purposes, I'm assuming you are talking about the Singpapore Tax Structure and not the UK (I don't know anything about UK taxes.)

Fringe Benefits
Employer-provided fringe benefits are taxed in the employee's hands. As a number of benefits are taxed on a concessionary basis (e.g. housing) in Singapore, it is possible to reduce an individual's tax liability through appropriate structuring of his/her remuneration package.

What is this concessionary rate? Does it apply to education allowance, post differential?

We are planning to send someone to Singapore for a couple of years but wanted to make sure we calculate the tax on benefits right...

This would apply to a U.S. professional

See the taxman's website on how they tax accommodation in Singapore.

Amanda,

If you are going to try to advertise or solicite business in this forum, you really must be a little more creative than that. This thread is about a guy in the "UK"coming to Singapore and this was clarified in the very beginning of this thread.

I hope you are a wee bit more diligent in your checking of your client's data if you are, as you claim, a tax preparer. It definitely does not show attention to detail does it.

So, if you want to advertise, please do so in the Classified section of this site. It's free and it's not in violation of this forum's no advertising or solicitation policy.

Further attempts at thinly veiled solicitation in the forum will result in your account being locked.
