Hi everyone and fellow canucks in Singapore...
I got an offer from SG. So, I'm relocating there soon.
anyone can give me some tips on shipping from Canada (Toronto) to Singapore? preferably a door-to-door shipping would be very nice... ^_^

i've shipped (literally) a coupla giant crates of my belongings to singapore before (including beds and mattreses and what not).
based on what i can see, it wasn't touched at all. nothing opened. it was sitting at the port and i rented a truck to go pick it up.
in fact, i didn't even have to talk to customs - i went into the building, showed my paperwork to a storeman who pointed out roughly where it is.
i went on in to poke around, found it, and began shouting for my friends to come lug it away... or i had to find those pallet movers!
but there're security processes that're annoying (changing of ID, taking of picture to make temp IDs... forms...)
i think most of the items would have been x-rayed before leaving the dock and only suspicious ones placed on hold for further inspection.
as long as you label your stuff accordingly, i don't think you should have much problems (even by air, cos i fedexed a coupla jumbo boxes to singapore too).

hey try Crown Relocation - I know a buddy that used them.
I am also moving to Singapore from Toronto in a couple of weeks.
Anyone know about mountain biking in the area? is it worth bringing my bike with me?
Thanks

Not sure if they have Allied Pickfords in Canada (guess so?) but think twice before using them.
With my relo they were FANTASTIC at the Australian end but the people in Singapore were crap. Really crap. Lost my doco several times, and I ended up having to deal with multiple people. I was supposed to have a "key contact" at the Singapore end, but that person left the company with anyone telling me, and the only was I found out was by an out of office email. This wasn't so bad but it happened with TWO PEOPLE IN A ROW!!! Then they scratched the marble on my floor when moving in and haven't heard from them 3 months later regarding a claim. Just very dodgy service at this end...
P.S. I lived in Toronto a few years back - Welcome to Singapore!
