Singapore Expats

Hi guys, I am doing a project on househusband, and i would like to hear your opinions on man being the 1 that stay at home and doing all the house chores and taking care of children while the female go out and work to support the family. Haha, i need your opinion asap as my project is due on monday. Thanks guys.

Why Haha? There are lots of real men who don't have the local male hangup about it being a patriarchal society. There are a few on this board. My opinion? I think local males ought to grow up. Haha.

Why are we doing your homework? Of did your teacher tell you to ask the Singapore Expats Forum?

Conventionally, it may not be the best "man". But he will be a great father. I have known a husband who was doing night shifts for years while his wife did day shifts - he would wake up every day past midnight, showever shave kiss his kids good night and go to work - and that is what a great father and good wife can do. and i agree with one of the responses... what does your "haha" mean really? are you one of those who thinks raising kids is only a women's responsibility?

oh no la, my "haha" is because i rushing for project, den paiseh den haha la... i got nothing against househusband and stuff, i think they are great if they are doing their things well.

I think they are Gods gift to women

i would love to help you out with your project but i am busy changing nappies, cooking, cleaning, etc.

Precisely! Had the OP posted that elsewhere on the forum it would have been deleted since the admin don't welcome posters conducting their research or projects on the forum. To the OP use the library or newspapers that's what they are for...........

Plavt, This is Singapore. Do you think you are going to find many articles on Househusbands in this patriarchal society? I doubt it seriously. Anyway, by posting it in the rubbish bin it's the reason I left it here.

Presumably the OP is at college or some other educational institute and has fellow students not to mention the research that could just as easily be carried out in the street or on the Internet. Are you going to tell me Singapore doesn't have any good book stores either? Either way I have left it for the same reason as yourself so lets see how it goes.

well, I know for a fact I will throw a spanner in the works here, but I ould like to say the first houshusband I met was in UK, the wife was working night shift.

He actually told me he was a house husband, and was paid by government, I know him quite well, he also earns cash doing van delivery jobs.

I think it is okay if they can afford to do it, the kids need at leat one parent close by, at most times, two is better, but to do it here in Singapore, the female must be earning enough, to manage. I have nothing against it, at all. although I am not a supporter of abuse, and that also happens, too in more cases, than i care to think about.

Tonight for example, I was very late, we have no maid, and my wife was looking after the work place, while the owners, travelled, at 11.30 p.m in 7/11 my daughter noticed somone she knew still in scholl uniform, I also know the girl to speak to, she is maybe 10 years old, very street wise, smokes, swears, but is a nice kid.

What does one do? report to the authorities, when one knows more children are abused inside, than out! Home husbands should be allowed, in my opinion, they can also be productive, and happy earning very little. I think its a matter of choice really. I suppose in the middle of the day you have an excuse to sit in the kopi shop...with all the old retirees....oh how much fun not.....going to work may suck but beats doing laundry any day.

Have you ever tried it? I have. Not bad at all, Washing Machines and Dryers make life easy. Even better yet are laundromats!
