Electronics from USA

Hello,
Getting ready to relocate to Singapore from Texas and had heard that US electronics and such would not work there. Is this true? Is it just certain stuff i.e. TV's, blenders or blowdryers? I have also heard that TV's cost almost double. Is this the case as well? Just trying to get an idea of what to take...or not.. and how much it will cost to replace such items. Any info would be great.

different voltage/hertz and tv system in singapore.

TVs do cost double, but you have no choice. Most US TVs only accept 110V, and Singapore is 220. You can buy transformers for small, low-power items but not a TV (big fire hazard).
Check your US items before you leave, all power output/AC Adapters list the rating... if it says 100-240 (most laptops for example), then you're ok.
Plan on re-buying all kitchen appliances, a TV, a subwoofer (if you want a sound system), hair dryers, etc.
Laptops/chargers/Desktop PCs are usually ok.

Basically, if it's got dual voltage built into it, bring it. If it doesn't have dual voltage and it still has a plug on it, sell it.

Be careful... I busted my HD-DVD player I got from the States because I forgot to plug in the voltage converter.
In general, its alot easier to get electronics here.

Sometimes dual voltage is not between 110 and 240 -- but 110 and 140. If it has a plug, sell it. Don't put anything with a plug into storage (Rule #72 from the Expat Handbook
