Singapore Expats

Does anyone know of anyone leaving Singapore who would like to find a good home for their home help/maid ? I am moving in July and wanted to find someone who was used to working in an Australian family- just thought I would ask around and this forum seemed like a good place. many thanks

I am leaving and looking for a good home for my maid. I have four kids and she looks after all of them with limited help from my very unhelpful mother-in-law! She is really very good, trust worthy and speaks english really quite well. She can cook western foods as well as local. She is 36 yrs old from Indonesia. Current salary is S$400 p/mth with 2 sundays off a month. If you are interested to interview her please email me at [email protected]. I am leaving at the end of June, although my husband will remain until the end of the year. I would like to find her an employer before I leave, even if she is not to start immediately.

Cait - hi there, when are you arriving ? Do you know where you will be living ? It would be good to meet up. My husband is going at the end of June and we will be going about the 12th July. I have a 2 boys, 4 1/2 and 2y.o. We have got a condo about a 5 minute walk to AISS (Max starts in July). Where are you going to be? I would love to catch up/ swap info etc... How exciting/new/scary

I moved from Melbourne to Singapore in January this year with 2 children aged 5 1/2 and 3 1/2, who both attend AIS. I found it to be quite an easy transition for them, though they have missed family. Would recommend you set you family and friends up on skype or something similar as it makes it much easier for young children to talk to family and friends back at home when they can see a familiar face.

My family is also making the move from Melbourne to Singapore - but not until December. I have a son aged 5 1/2 currently in Prep and a 3 1/2 year old daughter. We have both of them on the waiting list for AISS for 2009 (Year 1 and Preschool). Do most Australian expats send their kids to AISS? Cait - was is difficult to find a condo near the school? What are the good suburbs near the school?

Hi Stego, there are not a lot of condo's around the school. I think we looked at pretty much all of them (about 11 in total). We are at Goldenhill park which has fantastic facilities (esp. for kids) and I think the best (obviously!!). The Chuan is brand new but much smaller and not many available because of the two year lease thing. Also, Springbloom was pretty good, a bit older but bigger, as it seems to be...I wanted to be close to the school so we can walk but it seems as if a lot of people put their kids on the bus (even pre-scoolers as there is a "bus auntie").

We also looked at Thomson and Novena but you need a car as its on the other side of the expressway (if want to do own drop offs).

We had an absolutely fantastic agent who organised everything for us, drove us around, negotiated price etc. if you want her details, let me know and I will see what I can do.

Re: Singapore Do you have a maid? How did you go about getting one? I am still trying to get my head around it but would love an extra set of hands... I haven't done any research into it yet as still trying to organise this side of things. Any info or advice you can offer to make the transition more smooth would be greatly appreciated.

My indonesian maid is urgently looking for new family. reason we released her - she needs 4 off day in a month(currently she had 2days) due to her computer class and nursing class falls every sunday. Due to my job, i cant afford to give her every sunday off day.

she's very good with young kids, and know how to care for dog.

Hi Kels - can you tell me about getting into playgroups or mothers groups ? I am keen to get into something like this asap I have a great one here in Melbourne and will miss it alot ! I agree Skype is fab- we moved from Sydney to Melb only year ago and it has been a great way to stay in touch. where abouts are you living are you open to any more friends?
