Singapore Expats

Hi,
I will be relocating to Singapore within the next 4 weeks. Is there any advice on shipping goods over to Singapore? Any particular companies to use?

We are also in the process of relocating. We left the UK at the end of April and used Crown Relocations to ship our house contents. They were extremely efficient and courteous when it came to packing us up and were sensitive to our somewhat 'difficult' neighbours. However, we've yet to open the shipping crate so, if we're faced with a pile of broken bits then my opinion may be revised!

just got some of our stuff packed and shipped to SG , on the 20th . No wine, no flammables, no batteries.
Very efficient company Meridian Movers. Same as previous reply, the stuff has not left the UK yet, so we'll see at the other end ..

You can try Santa Fe Relocation Services. They are very efficient. So far no complains. They will also provide you with other helpful services like maid agency, expat car, etc.

we were in Clapham south, company based in East Sussex. Came on 3 days on time and packed the lot. The shipment for Singapore is leaving the UK, this Friday. We'll keep you posted on arrival.

Isabella - We used MoveManagement Australia and highly recommend them (albeit AUS-SIN) however they do worldwide moves.

We used Crown Relocations from UK to Indonesia - all went smoothly and arrived ahead of estimated arrival.

Too late for Isabella, but in case anyone else is looking at this thread for experiences with relocations firms:

Our stuff arrived and a 4-bed house-worth of furniture was unpacked carefully by Crown in less than 6 hours.

There was one small problem which Crown are trying to fix: When we left the UK we had to split our stuff to go to storage or to come to Singapore. Despite my careful labelling of each and every item we own, only 143 of the 144 boxes intended for Singapore actually arrived here. Crown are trying to relocate the box from our storage unit and ship it back out to us.

Overall though a good service. We had the full monty (paid for by my partner's employer thank goodness) which included an orientation day - our first day spent whizzing round town pointing at sights all of which was instantly removed from our memories by a combination of jetlag and one too many celebratory drinks, and a cultural awareness training day both hosted by Crown.

We will be moving to Singapore within the next 6 weeks and i am obvioiusly concerned about finding the best area to live. We live in a 5 bed house in Fulham at the moment and will be shipping all of our stuff. We have a 4mth old baby and so don't need to be too close to schools at the moment but need a fun and friendly location. I keep hearing about areas 9 & 10. Anyone have any advice?

Before anybody can give you relevant advice, we would have to know what your housing budget is.......

A good way to gauge where you can afford or not afford is to go to our host here's property Listings (see tab at top of page) to get an idea what rentals in the various districts look like. Reduce the prices about 10% and that will give you a rough idea. Then when you have narrowed it down some, specific questions we will try our best to answer. With one child I think finding a 5 beroom house or condo here will set you back a minimum of 5 figures monthly.
