Does anyone have video camera installed in your place and have it setup with a surveillance company - the ones that let you view on the web? Just curious, what are the setup fee and monthly fee? what are the companies that provide this service?

get yourself a network camera (aka IP webcam).

What's it to you?

There are many reasonable and sensible reasons. Personally i have an IP cam linked to my office LAN that i can dial into and view anytime i want.

I did see some adverts somewhere in SG that company, maybe StarHub for example, let's you view a camera on your mobile phone. I think it is so long as your broadband and phone both are StarHub...... something like that anyway.

I can think of a lot of good reasons.

If you have pets at home.

If you have an aging parent at home (I'm looking into this one as well as my MiL is getting pretty frail) if she were to fall down with no body home it could be bad as I have Marble floors throughout.

If you have teenage children at home while both parents are working (teens today are as randy as teens of my day were!

Lot's of good reasons.......



I'm wanting t get one of the steerable via the web types so I can pan the living room and kitchen with a single ceiling mount camera. Just that the darn costs are so high for those and I don't really need one through ADT and pay forever through them although it might be okay in the long run.

But the original OP didn't mention anything about spying did they? If you checked her profile you would also know she is a parent with small one (infants) and only here for around 8 months now. Can't blame her for wanting surveillance when she's out of the house. At least I can't.

Also a big difference between a video or CCTV installation (surveillance) and a pinhole camera (spy camera).

hi, bought the dlink camera at first about 200+ , it has all the email notification on motion detection, recording etc, and as long as you use starhub or singtel broadband at home, you can connect through internet to watch it in the office

but the better choice is the linksys , cant remember the model, is the range that costs about $400+, i can check if you need

sometimes it is better to have a way to peak into your house , especially, if the made is babysitting your child,

also , bare in mind, if you work in the bank, you might have problems accessing the page from your workplace, cause we lock all video transmission ports by firewalldown here

It's neither his business to tell you or yours to know...... its not like its YOUR house! And there's no need to give you the satisfaction of getting on your moral high horse and getting all judgemental of others.

"Your place" can relate to either my home or my office and to be perfectly honest i am allowed to put a camera in both if i so choose....... and i have, in the office.

for IP webcam / network camera, have a look at d-link, linksys, axis and panasonic. you can get them in wired or wireless and PTZ. should be available in funan or sim lim. once they are setup, you can view it over the internet, or even on your mobile if you have data enable on your subscription.

but for an easier "surveillance or spying" purpose, you can get a camera in a fake IR alarm unit that will take digital photos and save it to a SD card. the camera is activated by IR sensor. you cant view it over the internet.

Can you enlighten me on what u mean by fake IR alarm unit? How do I go abt searching for it?

You build it yourself. You buy the shell of the IR alarm and then install the camera of your choice.

But don't you think it would look kinda funny having an IR alarm in your bedroom or bathroom?

Otherwise I see no reason you would have to disguise a camera as it's there for protection isn't it?
