Singapore Expats

Hi all,

I will be relocating to Singapore in a short while. Does anyone know whether the following drinks are available for purchase in Singapore:

- Safari (Sweet Liquor)
- Pisang Ambon (Sweet Liquor)
- Duvel (Strong Belgium Beer)

I have never seen these drinks in the pubs and clubs or any hotel in Singapore. If these drinks are not known in Singapore I should bring a few bottles with me.

I love Duvel. You can find them in the local supermart Cold Storage http://www.coldstorage.com.sg/mall/ and in Ice Cold Beer http://www.emerald-hill.com/ - with its range of belgian beers I dont think you will be disappointed at least Duvel can be found there too. Hope it helps

you probably knew, but alcohol and tobacco products must be declared for taxation by customs.

i can't say i've heard of any of those 3 products, but i know my favorite hoegaarden is available.

Almost. Alcohol within the limits of 1 litre hooch, 1 litre wine, and 1 litre beer does have to be declared at all IF

a) You have been out of the country for more than 48 hours and
b) You are not returning from Malaysia.

Tobacco must always be declared.

At least Duvel is available, so I can drink my favorite beer when I'm in Singapore. I also do like the Hoegaarden beer as mentioned by taxico.

The liquors I mentioned earlier are quite common in Europe, or at least in the country where I come from (The Netherlands). They often call it a ladies drink because of the sweet taste and it is usually mixed with orange juice or some other similar juice.

Another sweet taste liquor what would be nice to have in Singapore is the 'Passoa'.

FuturCitizen.. jsut make sure you don't carry it along with the hand lugguage ... am sure you heard about the liquid policy in Airport. find a way to ship it then.t I don't think the airport of the netherlands will ever allow you to carry liquid to the plane.

That time the poor french guy twas flying from Paris Airport with a branded champagne but the security didn't allow him to take in with him the poor guy you should have seen his reaction so funny.. he said so i'll open it i drink it here and then go onboard heehee and he did.. apparently he didn't hear about this infos

oh have you tried a similiar beer called wittekerke? its found in singapore too and you probably can get it at the belgium resturauant brussls sprout in robertson quay. very nice white beer, i daresay , my favourite white beer.

It should depend on the destination.

Generally you are allowed to take on Duty Free liquids provided they are in a sealed, clear Duty Free bag and the receipt is plainly visable, except on flights to the US i think that just don't allow any liquids over the 10ml limits they have, or whatever small packet limit it is.

But yes, you won't be able to take a bottle of Krug from home and carry it in your hand luggage for example, it would need to be in the case.

Not sure how expensive Duvel is sold for in Singapore.

Perhaps you want to try the local variety like Tiger. It is substantially cheaper than foreign imports. I think Tiger is quite good. Anchor is crap though.

How much is tax/duty on additional bottles of alcohol being brought in? Is there a link somewhere of importation taxes? I wonder if it would be cheaper to bring what you wanted from outside of Singapore. And, let's say you wanted to order something from a different country that you couldn't find in Singapore, is there some sort of liquor store that could import something for you?
