Hello, I moved from Canada and am in need of a haircut. Could someone recommend a place for a man to get a haircut in this general area with a reasonable price, does not have to be cheap but should be less than S$60.

If I expand the parameters to any where near Orchard Rd. would this help?

For us guys, Orchard is not the right place to get a cheap simple haircut.

Just take the MRT to any Mall in any HDB estate (usually above or next to the MRT station) and you can easily get a haircut from $18-35.

If you want to stay in the city, try the upper floors of Bugis Junction or Funan the IT mall near city hall.

there's a place in the basement of plaza singapura that will cut your hair for $10...it's very cheap and quick - they do an okay job...it's a japanese chain

Personally, I'll avoid those $10 shop.

for a man, $60 in most places (not all) along orchard road will cut it (pun intended).

ask first. they include a wash and blow dry and some sort of product.

if you're looking for a basic cut at economical prices, then please steer clear of orchard road->suntec strip.

a short train ride to places like Toa Payoh will get your hair cut at a local barber shop for $10-$15 and these are butch places with (mostly) friendly barbers! but they don't wash.

if you're brave enough, there're some female-populated-and-ran hair salons that cut men's hair and do the same cut, wash & dry for about $30. they aren't hanky panky places!

i do that, i love the result and my favorite singapore barber is female! : )

My local Malay barber does me just fine (when I'm too lazy to cut it myself - which I normally do for the past 35 years). He also does my beard as well if I let him all in the same $8 price. Course I'm sporting only a fringe around the perimeter so it's relatively easy as nothing on top to do.

Why look far? There are at least 3 hair salons inside Plaza Singapura besides the the 10 minute place-
One on level 2 next to Marks & Spencer (right before the car park exit), another in basement 1, and another on the 4th level, if i'm not mistaken (I think its next to Daisu).

Do anyone have any advices or suggestions on available hairstyles, and how do I communicate what kind of hairstyle that I want to my hairstylist ?

I don't even know what is term for my hairstyle:

Short cropped on the low part of back, left, and right side, short but a bit thick on the top and top front, but not to short on the top front. So it's a bit spiky on the top and top front, but not too spiky, the spikes are not that obvious or short.

What is the name of that ?

A picture is worth a thousand word. Get a mag find the cut you want and take that.

I really like the 10 buck ten minute haircut especially when they vacuum your head

S$10 a cut in 10 minutes, that's S$1.00 a minute! there are a few of these S$10 cut popping out more.
