hi
I'll be travelling to singapore next week.
I'll take my laptop with me to keep me informed of business and personal matters.

However, I do not want to look for hotspots everytime I need to access the net.

Is there any wireless internet available in singapore at affordable rate?
How about connecting to the net with a singapore mobile phone?

thanks...
need advise urgently. travelling in 2 days time.

your option is either 3G or wifi. you can get free wifi all long orchard road. it's call Wireless@SG.

3G is going to be expensive. you will need a datacard or a 3G usb modem. you better find out the rate if you want to roam with data in singapore.

also, have a look at www.ipass.com.

thanks.

I already have a 3G mobile phone.
I used to connect to the internet from laptop by connecting thru USB to my mobile phone and use the mobile's data service.
All without additional hardware.

Is it possible in Singapore?

it'll be pricey on a pre-paid sim, but you can't get a post-paid sim unless you have non-tourist visas, right? plus i'm not sure if prepaid's restricted only to gprs...

i think wireless@sg works pretty good and is free. you might have roaming agreements from your home telco/wifi, so do like durain says, check out ipass!

doesn't wireless@sg work in many places, even outside of orchard? or have they lessened coverage...! the rats...

I hope this will work fine when I arrive SG. looking forward to it!!

by the way, what wifi standard do they use?

i think like all enterprise-class equipment it's probably all abg compatible.

i hope it works for you too! i'm sure your hotel'll have in-room internet for free. remember to bring your travel wifi router if it's not quite 4 star and you're the lounge'y sort.

if you roam with singtel, you can get free username and password to login to wireless@sg.

3g/3.5g and EDGE is all avalible in SIngapore..

for EDGE will only be from Starhub..

For 3g/3.5g service, you can contact the various telco like Singtel and Starhub for more information should you roam over..

haha.. i personnaly use Starhub Maxmobile and SIngtel Broadband on Mobile..

they are superb

I'd stay with wireless@sg as they are free. Just tune your phone network to singtel and when you register you'd get an sms with your password (or probably that will also work with prepaid hello singtel).

Much, much cheaper than any alternative, especially for roamers. And wireless@sg (I think) is available at any starbucks, not only around Orchard area. At least in airport, in Jurong, Bukit batok, and in woodlands. I think McD has free wifi too.

yes there is, but you know there are a lot of hotspot areas in singapore especially in shopping district.but if you really don't want, there are singtel wireless internet, a gadget you can just plug in and you are ready to surf the net everywhere you go but i think it should have a bond of 1 or 2 years.not sure.. you can just use your mobile phone. i assure you a lot of wifi spots here even in libraries.
