Another question:

PR holder opts to work in a another country right after his/her SPR was approved. I assume that PR status will be lost( or not renewed, etc), after couple of years of living outside of Singapore, right? If it is so, how many years SPR can work outside of Singapore before his/her SPR status would be lost ( or not renewed)?


Or does it hamper the success of PR application in a future if former SPR moved back to Singapore after many years and decided to re-apply for PR status again?

So, my understanding is this...

A Permanent Residence is, indeed, permanent -- as long as you stay in Singapore, it will always be valid. (Unless you're convicted of murder, child molesting or running a Singapore Airlines pilots' union, that is.)

However, if you want to leave Singapore and come back, you will need a Re-Entry Permit, and this is valid for 5/10 years at a time. To renew it, you need these documents:

If you are an employee

* A letter (issued not more than one month ago) from the employer addressed to the Controller of Immigration, stating the date of employment, position held and monthly salary
* Statement from the CPF Board showing the CPF Contribution History for the last 12 months
* Income Tax Notice of Assessment for the last 3 years.

So, if you have no job and/or no income when your REP expires, your REP will not be renewed and you lose your permanent residence the next time you leave Singapore.

You are over 50 years of age and you got your Permanent Residence on Family Ties as opposed to being granted PR on the Technical Merit Scheme. You do not need any letter for any employer in this case (and I also got a 10 year renewal as well)
