Singapore Expats

Dear Parents,

My son will go to school Jan 2009. We are singapore PR, but my son is not. so we have to wait untill 28 August 2008 to register him. But I am overseas from middle august till now.

anyway the nearer school all have no available places when i visited them on early august.

Could you give me some advice on how to register him? can i register him later? If a school has no available places, can i register him there as a students that pay higher fees?

presume you are referring to local schools.

you can register your child any time, subject to vacancies. if you check the MOE website now, you will see which schools have vacancies.

you can also seek the help of MOE in placing your child, but no, you can't pay your way into a school.

and i guess, you could choose a primary school which is near your house....

Only 3 schools have vacancies. the nearest one is Juying. Is Juying good? Thanks.

Edmund, hii .. i am presuming Juying must be in Jurong West ..I just shifted to Jurong West and I did a good check on schools before shifting here..my boy will be doing his P1 registration next year..and from my research and feedbacks,, I realised that West Grove Primary was a good school..you may want to check out this forum,,I find it quite informative

i know rulang is a fairly good school (i went there myself)

Yeah Rulang is another good school i heard.

on the contrary, I'm doubtful whether rulang is a good choice for expats.

Try Raffles Gal primary School.

they hv gifted pgm if your child is bright.

methodist gal is also good bcos secondary you can go easily as they say have affilations. Some catholic school CHIJ also hv affilations.

Raffles has no affilations so you dun get priority if yr child results not so good. They hv to go to the Sec school which their gardes meet unless they have special talent like sports or whatever.

Good school hv a lot of rich kids, many peer pressures , lots bday invites.

I don't think you are quite the walking advertisement for the type of schools that expats are looking for. One of the things that they DON'T want is to have their kids growing up and writing like you do. If you are going to write on an Expat centric board, you should have the courtesy to type in English rather than little schoolgirl sms-texting. Here we tend to try to use the full keyboard as we are not limited to the length of our posts. This way most here don't have to try to decipher what you are actually writing and can spend more time on the information being given.

In Singapore, the places are more or less allocated based on where you live.

Sorry, places in local are NOT allocated to expats based on where we live. If ANY local school has space available during the third stage of balloting, then you can line up at 6am to be the first on the list. For expats, it doesn't matter where you live, it only matters if the school has space available during the final balloting exercise.
