Singapore Expats

My wife and i are moving with our two little ones (both under 4) in January. We have been considering some of the cluster home developments (a balance btw landed and condo) and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the various developments (particularly teneriffe)?

Teneriffe has lots of stairs inside, and they are open stairs (just slats with no backplates etc and no sides of any substance) not ideal for young children. It was one of the reasons we didn't like the place. The units were very nice but a bit too close to the neighbours (your kitchen windows to their rooms) and the noise from the pool area for some reason is a bit loud. Otherwise it was nice and had nice facilities. We had friends who were there and these thoughts are a mixture of ours and theirs, they have since moved on to another cluster type arrangement which they like better.

Have you checked the shaughnessy? My friend had a houewarming and it seemed nice. The upside and downside is the location. You'll be surrounded by greenery (i think a golf course) and within minutes of a lake or river. However the whole devt is located far north in the Yishun area. If you have kids studying in american, australia, french, or potentially in UWCSEA east, then that shouldnt be a problem for them. We are considering the location ourselves because although it would be a long car drive for my husband, it would be a manageable mrt commute for him to the south. I'd like to think of it a way for him to reduce his carbon footprint, but to be honest, he sees it as a potential daily exercise in patience. Check if out for yourself as it might suit your needs. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the living areas all have full picture windows which can somehow feel like a fishbowl as anyone who passes by the walkways as well as your opposite neighbor will be able to easily see you. Good curtains may be necessary for the shy or private ones.

Here in Singapore isn't that like going out on the balcony and Pi$$ing in the wind? Especially with the shopping centres trying to air condition all of orchard road (which is on average 3degrees less than the rest of the Island).

Hi there, We moved into Teneriffe 2 wks ago. Two kids under 7. We are v v v v happy with the decision. House is great, but the best feature for us are the other kids around us. So easy to open the door and let them out, knowing they are safe (they can both swim), happy, and having constant fun. We are away from the pool, so no issue with noise. Lovely neighbours, quiet as it's a cul de sac. We are lucky to have a large unit (6 beds), and the stairs issue not a prob given the ages of our gang. Anyway, I'd give is 5 stars so far. Bets of luck.

what about Villa Del Rose at Taman Nakohda (is that considered cluster housing) or Binjai Park

Villa del Rose is a good choice. Also check out Tanglin Park, Villa Chancery, Duchess Crest. They all have townhouses in a condo development.

The location is excellent, good bus services at the end of the road, and great local shopping there as well. Not close to MRT though, well not yet anyway.
