Getting rid of the bottle

I am trying to get my son to start drinking milk from a sippy cup and its not really working. I have tried a few sippy cup brands and also a straw cup but he is not fully taking to it when it comes to milk (he will drink water out of them with no problem). Just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions on stopping the bottle.

have you got any other kids in the house? kids being kids, they like to copy each other, so get a kid to drink the milk from a cup and ask your son to copy the kid. hopefully that would coax him into drinking from a cup. praise him big time when he does it.

Unfortunately not, he is our first. I have been praising him like crazy, he probably thinks I am nuts a times. Thanks anyway.

hey there,

I'm a new mum but had some experience with older kids.. have u tried a straw? some kids find it more interesting.. esp if u find a swirly straw with colors.. my 1 year old just started using a straw instead of sippy cup.. even tho it goes everywhere at times lol.

How old is your son? I let my son pick his sippy cup (the colour). I stopped him having the bottle at nap times and only let him have it at bedtime. once he was happy to drink from sippy cup at nap times I just cut the bottle out of bedtime completely. If your son is still young I wouldnt worry too much about rushing to take the bottle off him if it comforts him, just gradually do it over time.

Good luck

have you tried the transitional bottle with a spout instead of nipple? it at least still looks like a bottle, and if you get the no-spill spout, he'll still have to suck to draw the milk out. not a big step from the bottle, but hey, it's a step, nonetheless ;-)

My son is 15 months and can def drink from a sippy (he has water all day from it). Part of this transition is for him as I think he is old enough to give us the bottle (this is step 1, step 2 is the pacifier). The other part is for me, I am soooo tired of washing bottles. His teeth are all over the place between the bottle and the paci that I want to have him let go of one of them, paci keeps him calmer so I chose to hold on until our major flying is done this year.

Thanks for the advice!!!
