Hi, recently i just get a job here after I graduated from my Master degree program. The company applied my EP 3 days ago, but it was rejected. What I want to know is:
1. If i appeal, usually it will take how long to know the result?
2. Can I apply for S Pass, since the qualification for S pass is lower than EP and I might get rejected in the first place because of this reason?
3. Besides appealing is there anything that I can do?

Did you have any experience in the position you were applying for? If not, then I would expect that that is the reason you were rejected. Just because you obtained an MBA does not guarantee you a job, good or otherwise. If you are a recent basic degree holder who continued with their schooling rather than spend 2 or 3 years in the workforce, then you are not much different that any new grad without experience. That is why most get their careers going first then do the MBA which then becomes like a booster rocket. You are already flying the MBA just give you an additional kick. Without experience, you are only a paper hanger with no experience at all. Hard to convince a local employer to take a gamble on an unproven, but more expensive asset.

Or, did the company have Quota problems? You would first have to ascertain that you were the reason for the rejection (but they won't tell you why) or the company was the reason - If it was for Quota then MOM will let them know. If they have been blackballed or something then they won't know either.

You may have to apply through another company and then if that's rejected as well, you might have to rethink your options. Also, if your skillset is in an area where there are amply locals with similar skillsets, then MOM won't approve it as it wouldn't make any sense to hire a foreign talent to take a locals job. Especially considering the additional paperwork involved and liability involved as well.

Usually appeal process takes minimum 3 weeks and can go upto 4 weeks... And all appeals are treated by MOM on case by case basis.

No.

That is a quick way to be deported from the country and NEVER allowed to return.

then, why do i see lots of company are hiring temporary employee? like for 3mths, 6mths..... there must be a temporary work permit for that too right?

company hiring for temp staff usually will require PR or Singaporean, there is no way foreigner can be hired for temporary staff..

Appeal usually will take 2 weeks or more..

Lots of jobs are Temporary 3 or 6 month contract positions. And lots of them are foreigners filling them. How do you think all the expat/foreign engineers who work on job sites get there? Not all projects are several years long. Could be a team just doing the design work. I once imported a whole team of Specialist Cad designers who used a software not found here in Singapore at that time who came in to do the design & clash checking for one of our Refinery players here.

Banks often used temporary Indian & Filippino programmers as well for short term projects (unfortunately they all still are required to get a Working visa of some sort for even short term work.

Hei, I didnt mean working without permit, what i'm trying to do is to find out if I can get a temporary work permit or something like that before my EP get approve.... just trying to know what other options can I pursue...

BTW, what is the difference between unsucessful and rejected EP? then can I apply new EP application again after got rejected in the first place?

Rejected usually means improperly filled out on incomplete. Unsuccessful means just that.

All temporary jobs require a valid work permit as well if you are a foreigner. The only way around that is if you are a full time student and one of the approved local institutions. Then you are still limited to how many hours you can work while on the student visa. So no, you cannot "legally" work if you are here on a social visit pass, full stop.

Appeal takes 2 weeks or more? Hmmm...long....What happens if the appeal is rejected again? But usually an appeal would not be that difficult for the permit to be accepted isnt it.


Some companies need candidate quickly..im afraid they might not be able to wait by then..
