Singapore Expats

hi!
i have a pretty big balcony and i need to find some plants!
anyone know some good nurseries? and do they deliver?

Heya Momeen - Thompson Rd is where we got ours - I can't recall the name of the nursery but when Ms. C gets here I will edit this post. The place we went DOES deliver, and they actually take care of the plants while transporting! They have a wide range of pots if you need those, and they potted the plants in them for free, plus put pebbles on the top, also for free.

There are a number of places on Thompson Road. We bought our plants from Hawaii Landscape. We've had success with some, and lost some.

And I don't know if they came with ants, or just attracted them, but ants became a problem.

I don't mean for that to sound like such a weak endorsement--Hawaii Landscape is actually a fine place. Maybe our patio plant inexperience is the problem!

we got all ours at hawaiin landscape on thompson road based on recs from other friends. they were great about helping me pick out what plants would do best in our apt (based on sun exposure, air con... etc) they also potted and delivered. would definitely recommend them to others!

Do herbs grow here? rosemary etc. for European cooking?

QRM - i bought thyme, basil and mint from hawaiin landscape and the basil & mint took off like gangbusters - but you really need to trim it back a lot and don't overwater. the thyme didn't last very long.

We bought rosemary from Hawaii Landscape, and it seems to be the same size as it was 6 mos. ago. It's still alive, but not the aggressive grower it has been for us in the US.

Momeen - there is a place up at Dempsey which does good outdoor furniture: teak, synthetic wicker, etc. etc. It's called Woody Antique House, Blk 7 #01-01/02 Dempsey Rd.

We got our outside chairs there, and they were about 30% than others we had seen.
