Singapore Expats

Hi everyone, I will move from Paris to Singapore next Jan. thus start to prepare my relocation. One question if someone could shed some light: considering rental location, what are the pros and cons between living in East Coast and some place close to work (e.g. along the Singapore river)? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I can't reply to private message yet but I really appreciate your help. There are two criteria I am considering:
1. Weekend
Where is more dynamic? East Coast or CBD?
2. Transport
I see some properties in East Coast are well connected to Raffles Place via Bus Plus by 20 minutes. Is that convenient? How about the waiting time? Or, say I hang out with friends quite late in town, how easy can I get back to my apartment if living in East Coast?

No, not enough information for me to decide yet. But I tend prefer east coast now. However, it's not easy to find a 1-bedroom condo (I am single) in that area, many of them are 3+ bedrooms. Some 1-bedrooms are in quite old condos, which I don't like ...

Have a look at some of the smaller 2 bed places on the east coast as the 2nd room is normally only good enough as a study room.

I would definitely recommend the East Coast but everyone has their own preference

When i was single I lived in the CBD, ran to work, hit the gym and on weekends could easily meet friends, the east coast was a trek out to roller blade.

When my bf lived in the east coast, I had to taxi in (exercise regime went down the drain), we still always came into the city to meet friends but I did roller blade a bit more on the weekends. I found picking up food a bit more of a hassle as well.

I prefer the city as I could walk everywhere without hopping in a taxi or bus (they seem to jerk alot and I feel sick afterwards) or the MRT and also better access to holland V.

My vote is for the city!

Also moving to SG in January from new york via my current super- short stint in Norway.

In NYC it's pretty easy to find places with non- agents via craigslist or even word of mouth...so long as you more or less have budget in mind. Is craigslist singapore similarly useful?

I think I might prefer to move into a place with other young, out- going people like myself (i'm 22) in multi- bedroom condo or hdb. would it be easy to apartment/condo hunt in this regard?

an agent might be good if they are trustworthy, but id rather be doing the work myself (if its feasible) than paying someone to do something i have the capacity to accomplish
