Singapore Expats

Hello Everybody,

I am preparing for PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and would like to form a study group.

My exam date is 28th Nov'08. Is there anybody who is preparing for PMP?

Go for it, MetroGuy. 8 days? Have you been studying already? Do you know the PMBOK alone will not have enough information to pass the test? Do you know that first time pass rate is under 55 percent?

Not trying to shoot holes in your attempt... I am a PMP myself... just that self study 10 days out is really tough. My experience is that successful candidates either took a cram/how to pass course and/or spent about 3 months in self study, often with others.

It will depend of course, on what your real project management experience is, but bear in mind that your goal is not to learn how to manage projects but how to pass the PMP exam... it aint easy... and it can be done.

Well..as expected..I flunked it.

Actually, I attended the 35-hr contact lessions in June 2006. Been flipping through PMBOK, Rita once in a while, though I must admit I never really concentrated much. So it was not a 10-day preparation..it was no preparation at all. I was never serious about it.

I booked the exam in feb'08 at first; but then kept on postponing until I couldn't anymore.

To be honest, I didn't even touch a book in the past 3 months, so I forgot whatever I used to remember albiet vaguely.

I did attempt the test just to see how it is like, as I have already paid US$405 plus the PMI membership fee since June'06.

Now, I am thinking of putting a serious effort in getting the PMP credential. So, I am still interested in forming the study group.

It was encouraging to learn that I am moderately proficient in the Closing phase. Thank God I am not a Project Manager, otherwise all the projects would have been closed before they had started.

So.PMP Study Group.anyone?

All the best...you will make it this time around. I'm planning to take the exam here in Riyadh. Will see how it goes...

I just cleared mine on 29 Dec 08. It is very important to take as many sample tests as possible. The questions are very tricky and the only way to pass is to understand the standard answers to the scenarios.

There is also an interesting podcast guide at www.pmprepcast.com, but you have to pay.

I registered on this site only after reading your comments on PMI. I am planning to study for PMP, beginning this month. I reside in Pasir Ris. Since I am notvery familiar with Singapore, I donot know where to join. I have been a Manager and have handled IT projects. As 35hrs course is mandatory, I would like your guidance in below-
1) Should I go for the best center in Sg, although it may be further away or is it best to go for a center near my home.
2) Are the course materials more of use or the teachings by the center staff.
3) Can I first read the materials and then join the course, or only other way around. If I can read first, where can I find the materials/books required.
4) Can anyone share the materials with me to boost my confindence before I register for the course.
5) Any tips.

Since you are completely new to the game, why don't you consider joining the Project Management Institute, Singapore Chapter? There are programs and people like you... many members are not PMP but are working towards it. You may find value there. (Disclaimer - I am a past president of the Singapore chapter and could possibly be biased)

You will need to join PMI international to take the test, it is $40 more to be a chapter member... and in your case, I judge it would be money well spent.
