Singapore Expats

We are packing our container does any body know, if the fittings and portable gas bottles in Singapore compatable with australian fittings

The fittings etc are different, but bring the barbie anyway...you can get new fittings here and it should work just fine.

You may not need to get new fittings, my fittings are US and I have a supplier who provides appropriate gas refills.

Hi, has anyone found a place that sells affordable gas bbq's? Ive been looking all over and the cheapest one i can find is over 500 SGD at BBQ mart and it was not a very good one. The better ones are over 1000 SGD. We're only here for a year and dont really want to spend that much as we will not be taking it with us. any suggestions? we really would likte to BBQ more, im tired of lugging the food down to the BBQ pit in the condo and waiting for the charcoal to burn down
i guess im just spoiled, the one i have in the US cost $125, its stainless steel and has a side burner. Ive tried to get one shipped but have not found a place that will do it, nevermind the price of shipping is very expensive. thanks for any advice.

I would get a little charcoal Weber if you're only here for a year, btv. Or watch for a used BBQ on bulletin boards around town, new ones do cost a bomb here and because of the humidity, don't last very long.

I can sympathise, i went thru the same thing, ended up buying mine in the US, whilst on a business trip, brought it back as check-in luggage, went to the customs red-line at Singapore airport and they asked me about my stack of boxes, when I told thema BBQ, they just waived me thru, so all i paid was the $60sg that SQ charged me excess baggage, could not find a decent price one in singapore, but there were a couple of aussie companies that will export.

I will bring my B-B-Q. but is worth bring the bottles if the connections dont fit

Don't bring the bottles (they probably won't let you anyway) just bring the barbie...the gas here is sold in bottles already here, you don't refill etc.

Ya know, I would have thought that, too... but I attended a party last weekend where the host was using a US style gas bottle... no idea how it got here.

I also use a US style bottle and connector - they are available from some suppliers here - I did not bring a bottle with, just brought the BBQ

In most cases they don't but we stupidly had our bottle emptied completely so it could be transported safely and took it with us when we left. Nobody thought to tell us that we wouldn't be able to use it when we arrived at the other end. You live and learn...

We are also bringing the BBQ, but other half wants to know whether the principal type of gas bottles you can get in Singapore are Natural Gas or LP Gas, as he tells me that will make a difference to the "fittings" and the "valves" internally to the BBQ.

Any help would be appreciated.
