Hi Everybody,

Since we're about to have a baby soon, we've been looking around for car seats, strollers, etc.

We're worried about getting around with the baby in taxis (no car)- it seems that nobody uses car seats- from what we've observed most people just holds them/ use a carrier.

While I fully understand what a nuisance it must be carrying a car seat around+the stress of strapping it in correctly and so on- are there no rules regarding this? We're actually thinking of getting a car just because of this.

Can anybody share their experience?

We used a carseat like the Maxi cosi cabriofix with the quinny zap. It works with alot of other strollers. Check shops like mothercare, motherworks, first few years etc for different options. However, this will only last your baby until about 1 yrs old as the carseat gets too small. After that is another story!

To be honest, I have hardly ever been on taxi without a car seat even back in Europe. And having experienced Singaporeans' careless driving here, I would not take a chance. I have got two little ones - 15 and 4 months old, so we (and our twin buggy) can only go by our car with car seats or by MRT.
For the car seat - Maxi Cosi strongly recommended.

I had my first baby in Singapore over 3 years ago and figured out, that the straps in taxis are'nt long enough to buckle up a car seat like Maxi Cosi. I always used a Maxi Cosi while travelling with her around, but only held on tight and didn't buckle up. Don't know if the taxis changed but you may check this problem.

We are currently looking for an infant car seat to go with out Peg Perego P3 stroller. Will only the Peg Perego car seat fit or will any other cheaper makes work?

I do not want to spend a load of money on a car seat when 1) we don't have a car and 2) they wont even fix into a taxi seat belt.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

i am looking at getting a peg perego too and i've been told by the shop assistants that only a peg perego car seat will fit. however, this is not the case.

my friend has the peg perego p3 and she uses a graco car seat. i don't know which model though. i don't know if the graco car seat is cheaper than the peg perego one - she happened to have one passed to her from another friend and it fits perfectly onto the p3. best to try the car seat on the p3 frame at the store for a perfect fit.

I had my baby in Singapore and use the maxi cosi with the quinny stroller to get around and it's quite convenient. I have a peg perego stroller but thought that the peg perego car seat + stroller was a bit too heavy to carry around, so I bought the maxi cosi and the quinny. The maxi cosi carseat fits in most taxies in singapore and the seatbelts are not that bad... The only problem is: what do you do once your child is too big to travel in the maxi cosi !

It was never a problem for me to use the maxi cosi in a taxi. Always managed to buckle it up somehow.

I also used it with the quinny zap. Aside from the combination looking cool and stared at by people its also one of the best strollers to manuveure around. And its light and easy to go on escalators with. Easy enough to squeeze through the crowds in the malls etc. But the only draw back is that it cant hold shopping bags!

The peg perego looks impressive but it is big and bulky.

The maxi cosi also fits onto a Bugaboo stroller with just one little extra attachment. The Bugaboo toddler seat has 3 different positions, flat, slight up, fully up. I highly recommend it. The Bugaboo bassinette is great also but just a bit big and clumsy so the maxi cosi would be better for your newborn.
With also the Bugaboo, you can have the complete accessory, the travel bag, nappy bag, can change the colour of the stroller (denim, pink or tailor made ), parasol, UV guard, breathable canopy, toddler wheeled board and seat. But i must admit, it does add up with the stroller retailing around $1000US.

Once your baby grows too big for the car seat which attaches to your stroller but you still want to use a taxi then you can try using a harness type device (for example the Joey Safe) which straps your child into the taxi using the adult seat belt.

I've been using Maxicosi Cabriofix and Bugaboo Bee for 3 months now, travelled a lot in taxis, never had a problem buckle it up

I also have Bugaboo cameleon (someone mentioned using this), I prefer Bee to Cameleon, much more practical in taxis.

Great to find this thread. We got a Maxi Cosi Cabrio and were wondering how to use it. Does it face rearwards when you buckle it in a cab?
I know most people don't use carseats in cabs here but we're not taking the risk!

HI, we had the same dilemma too when deciding whether or not to get a car seat since we do not own a car in Singapore, but after much deliberation we decided to get 1. Yes, no doubt that using car seats in taxis are not a popular choice among most in Singapore, but we've been using 1 since about 6 weeks back since our baby is born, and it's really quite easy. We're using the Peg Perrego and its complimenting car seat, it's basically click and go. Our babies bones and structure aren't strong yet, and it would be a dangerous if the taxi driver had to do a sudden and strong brake or worse, get into an accident.

I've got the Peg Perego P3 and have been trying to come to terms with spending so much money on the Peg Perego car seat when I'm only going to use it for 6 months (probably less).

I've read on this thread and the Peg manual that other car seats are compatiable so I gave it a try in Mothercare and found that none of the car seats (Mothercare own, Brittax, Maxicosi etc) fit in between the side arms of the stroller so the car seat sticks right up. Although the stroller comes with a strap it just looks really top heavy and unsafe.

Am I doing something wrong?
