Singapore Expats

Hello there...my husband will probably be taking a job in Singapore early next year, and I am trying to get some info to prepare for the move. We have four children 14, 10, 8, and 5 and are looking at the Singapore American School for the kiddos. My husband's office will be on Temasek Boulevard. What is a good area to live considering school and work would be on opposite ends of the island?

somewhere between Temasek (downtown, Suntec) and the Singapore American School (Woodlands, near the Malaysia,Johor immigration checkpoint), ie along any major highways - PIE (which cuts through the island of Singapore. condo around Bukit Timah are lovely with huge boulevard roads and lush greenery e.g. Maplewoods, Arcadia.

Also, if you looking to shop, there are shopping centre, grocery and markets all around the area. I can also recommend extra activities for your kids. sideways solicitation removed by moderator.

There are plenty of families living in the Orchard Rd. area and busing their kids to SAS. Cheers

Not sure I'd let the distance from SAS constrain you.

We live on Tanjong Rhu Rd on the East Coast and will be sending our oldest to Kindergarten at SAS in Aug.
The bus (more of a "greyhound" type bus.. not a traditional yellow school bus) arrives in front of our condo at around 6:30 am and returns at around 3:45 pm. Bus leaves our condo on Tg. Rhu and goes strait to the school.. no stops. 35-40 min.

As for the East Coast... lots more space to run around and play. Not so crowded and cramped as Holland area.

My son is starting Kindergarten at SAS in August. We are moving to Singapore the first week of Aug. and would love a rec on where to live too. We are condo hunting this weekend. My biggest fear is a long bus ride for my little guy. I am super worried.

Don't be worried, just call the bus office and ask them what the commute times were last year for the places you are interested in, or just move to the Woodlands. This is easy to fix.
