Singapore Expats

Hi,

I am in search of a domestic helper. I need someone who can speak English, has experience with kids, can cook, do general housekeeping, etc. I would prefer someone who has experience preparing Western dishes and must have good references.
Any helpful info is welcome

So... why is your maid 'flaking out'? Most people, under normal circumstances don't flake out. What is it about her/her job/her living conditions that is causing this?

I wouldn't want to make any maid recommendation until I understand why your maid is 'flaking out'.

I guess those having worked for French, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch etc . . . families need not apply as they are not knowledgeable in cooking preparing dishes.

I think she forgot to add Canadian so we have the Anglo world pretty much sewn up.

I find it alarming how the standard of expats is going down. What is this world coming to when people are hiring maids based on their cooking skills?

Good Lord, even I know that it is cook that cooks, and maid’s task is to help to keep a house in order. Of course occasionally one of the maids may assist the cook in kitchen, but under no circumstances should a maid be allowed to cook on her own. It’s almost as silly as to ask your butler to cook.

I’m simply in shock. I think I need an early GT to calm myself down.

If you aren't going to provide helpful information then please don't respond. It seems like many of you are just looking for an opportunity to criticize a member of the expat community. All I'm looking for is another maid because mine isn't completing her tasks, inexperienced with children, and has emotional issues due to family / relationship issues that have nothing to do with our family; however they affect her work performance. We treat her very well, pay her above average, and don't request that she do 1/2 the things other maids in our community do, ie; washing cars, walking dogs, etc. If no one on this forum has a referral or helpful information (which is what this forum is for) then please don't respond. You lower the standards of this forum with your ignorant comments.

bebe le chotchkey, afraid I do not have a referral, but I do agree strongly with your comments, seems to happen too often, someone posts an innocent request and some people seem to take delight in hi-jacking the thread and embarking on a personal vendetta, especially true when it comes to Maids. We have a transfer maid, we interviewed her, she interviewed us. she is flexible, and has learnt a lot of cooking skills from us - my wife, myself and the maid all cook and all enjoy doing so - I dislike the term Maid - mine is more a home help. She has been with us over two years and is very well looked after - and no she is not available, but I wish you luck and hope for a little more understanding rather than a personality attack.

Have you approached your agency? Rather than criticize the criticizers, it may have been better to read your initial post 'before' posting it rather than having to edit it later. I read it but bite my fingers when you first posted it. If you are having problems with a domestic helper, I would have though the agent would have been the proper route. That is the good thing about using an agent as opposed to doing it on your own as another thread is suggesting. At least this way, if it IS the maids problem, you then have legal recourse to at least get a replacement.

Oh, and one of the things about open forums, people are at liberty to post most anything they want unless they get personal, racial or use foul language. Or are soliciting or advertising things for things wanted or for sale like merchandise or employment or employees. However, even though you are basically advertising for help wanted and supposed to use the free classifieds section of this site, we haven't deleted it........).

The only "moderated" Forum is the "Strictly Speaking" sub-forum under the General Forum.

I have contacted the agency, as well as a few others; however I would prefer someone who is approaching the end of their term with a family and is looking to continue working. I really want a helper that has solid references and verifiable experience. I am just trying to utilize as many resources as I can...this being one of them.
