Singapore Expats

Hi

I need some help here. In Australia, we have free community maternity nurse whom we can visit to weigh our newborns and take measurements to monitor their growth. Also if we have questions, we can ask them.
Is there such as system in Singapore?

Also our newborns are immunised every 2months against rotavirus, whooping cough, measles etc. What is the immunisation program like in Singapore? Any mums given their babies/kids their BCG immunisation yet?

Hi, there are so called baby clinics in Singapore. They are generally walk-in clinics and their service includes treatment and prevention - general health care and immunisation for the kids and also monitoring of your baby's growth and development.
The immunisation scheme here is very similar to the European. And it is quite flexible. Don't know much about Australian though...
BCG vaccine is usually given to the newborns few days after the delivery but can be administered even later. Next is so called 6in1 jab - diphteria, tetanus, whooping cough, haemophilus B, polio and hepatitis B at the age of 6 weeks...etc...can't find the appropriate link for you at the moment, anyway they will give you the scheme during your first visit.

I already in Singapore and my son is due for his 6mth immunisations shortly. I was told in Australia that he may require BCG but i couldn't get it done before i arrived as he had the other lot of vaccinations and he can't have too many live viruses injected at one time.

You won't have much of a problem to find a baby clinic. You can try one of the nearest branches of Kidslink www.kidslink.com.sg but there are many others. Cheaper option would be to find a paediatrician in one of those local polyclinics - I haven't been to any myself and I was also told there is a long waiting time...
Regarding your kids immunisation - they are very flexible here (and very well paid for it ), so they'll give jabs based even on your Australian schedule. Unlike in UK - it was headache....
