Hello Folks,

Recently moved to Singland and after initial settling down, we thought we were ready to usher in a new addition to the family - a golden retriever!

However, our initial attempts at buying a golden at Singapore have been met with disappointment! There seem to be no serious breeders in Singapore and the folks who do sell them here have no registration of the pups nor do they have any clue about the lineage and therefore the probability of the pups having diseases prone to this breed.

I am wondering if any of you have exported a dog from a breeder outside Singapore? Australia seems to be the logical destination since no quarantine is required for pups from here.

Any experience or advice with this will have our heartfelt gratitude!

I don't know much about getting pure breed dogs, but there are a couple of agencies that help adopt dogs. I get an email almost daily from this woman about dogs available for adoption (just got one today about Jack Russel puppies!).

If you're interested in adopting a dog that needs a good home, I'd recommend contacting her. She might be able to give you some information about pure breeds in Singapore as well.

We brought our pets over with us and the quarantine was very traumatic for them. If you do bring a pet in, I definitely agree with getting in from somewhere that doesn't require a stay in the quarantine.

The quarantine process is really hard on the animals.

I wish you'd consider adopting a dog already here in Singapore, there's plenty of great animals needing a home, you can even find purebreds.

GoodMidas - my parents in law have a GR. They are in South Australia. If you want the name of the breeder I'm happy to ask them.

However, as Ms. C and I are both dog lovers, might I suggest that the local RSPCA equivalent might be an option for you. Plenty of unwanted pups out there. They might not be the breed you want, but at least you'd be protecting a pup that otherwise might go to doggie heaven.

Just to clarify "pakjohn", their is no quarantine requirement for animals that come from Australia, they fly directly in, so it is really easy on them, 7-8 hr flight and delivered straight to your door. So if had to bring an animal into the country, the easiest place is from Australia.

I guess I knew that as the OP said it in the beginning, but was just agreeing quarantine is rough, actually so is air travel for that matter.

Why don't you adopt a GR instead? There are quite a few rescue shelters around. You can try the SPCA or Mutts and Mittens. Or you can search the local dog forums who advertise almost daily with dogs up for adoption. We have 2 lovely rescue GRs with papers (from Australia).

I have just last week imported our two cats and one dog into singapore from australia.
I can truely say that it was very straight forward, I got a pet travel agent to arrange the flight etc, although many breeders of dogs export there pups worldwide, so many would do this on you behalf for a bit extra.
Check out the AVA website here in Singapore for details, as there is a minimum age that the pups have to be to travel.
You can apply for your own import permit from AVA for $50, but have to time it right, as it only lasts for a month.

I also collected my animals from the air cargo depot and was pretty straight forward, I can let you know more re: costs etc if you want to PM me.
