finding a job in Singapore

Hi Frens,
During this slowing down economy how hard it could be for me to look for a job for my wife here in Singapore ? She is staying here with me holding Long Term Social Visit Pass and she wants to utilize her free time working here. She has 7 years of work experience and still we are finding very hard even to get selected for interview for her. I guess as per MOM rules she is not allowed to work here holding LTSVP visa. How true am i ? Could you expats possibly help us on this matter on what should we be doing ? Thanks

Not quite smart enough though huh. No your wife can't work on an LTSVP. Without a sponsoring company willing to employ her it will be virtually a no-go. The fact that she has 7 years experience doesn't matter if there are sufficient locals to fill those positions. The reason for bringing expats into the country is to fill jobs that either they do not have sufficient qualified people to fill or the locals refuse to do those kinds of menial labour. Why should they just open their doors and let all and sundry just waltz in an take their jobs?

if she is an open heart surgeon specialist or a cold fusion specialist, then you dont need luck to get her a job.

I suggest you go back and reread my initial post again. You haven't told us what her degree is in or if her work experience is even relative to her degree. She might have been flippin' burgers at McD's for 7 years for all we know......

What are the skills your wife has? Maybe I could help her out for my organization?
She should get a job first, and mention to the potential employer she will be applying for an employment pass if she gets the job. If she is skilled, I don't think it is difficult to get an employment pass.
suggest and question

I think It will be easier if U apply PR for ur own first.then apply PR for ur wife..
I want to ask,is it really hard to get a job in Singapore if U dont have PR?
coz rite now I'm working so hard to apply for Admin position in Singapore, but no answer at all...my qualification is graduation from reputable uni in Indonesia majoring in hotel management Diploma 3..I have 6 years working experience as an admin officer..
I'm not really sure what should I do next...Do I have to come to Singapore and stay for a while to find a job?
I really appreciate for Ur info

What people usually do is paying for a 2-year landed PR and then trying to find a job within those 2 years. Check ICA website for details.

Because it happens in every country on the planet? All successful economies are based on a mixture of local and ex pat work forces.
I really wish people would stop posting this "it's impossible to get a job if your're not local" rubbish on here.
It flies in the face of reason. To claridy, Singaporean employers, in my experience do not give every single job they have to nationals, just because they are Singaporean, and qualified for it.
They have quotas to fill, of course. But if you are livinig there, apply for a job, and are qualified, you'll have a decent shout, no matter what your passport says.
I can't help but think people like you just come on here trying to put people off trying.
This theory that Singapore employers will only hire Singaporeans, for all jobs, is just plain false.

Just because you don't like the truth doesn't mean that it is wrong. You are dismissing first hand information and obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about.
@People seriously looking to relocate to Singapore: please ignore this poster.

You need to read, digest and understand: firstly sms has not said 'it is impossible to get a job if your are not local.' Secondly he is not 'trying to put people off.' merely stating what the policy is. In short if you are no use to the Singapore economy then you don't get. The government has to look after its own citizens first.
Reading your other posts I find your mentality a trifle worrying as no matter how many times you are told the same thing you persist in responding the way you have above. I hope nobody takes you seriously we have seen one poor soul on this board suffer badly because she travelled to Singapore 'on spec' of finding a job.

He's already spit his dummy in several other threads already, why not one more so he can confirm what all here already know about him.

Maybe he came over from expatsingapore and is trying to sabotage us!
