I can cure acupuncture as well. Just don't go to one and that will cure them. :P #-o

It depends on the type of back pain - FWIW, getting needles stuck into problem muscles that have siezed up (due to an injury) helps, but this is not TCM, and I also supplement it with remedial massage and yoga.

back pains can stem from many of things, poor posture - weak "core" and your everyday job - tight posterior muscles.

In my professional opinion, I'm a big believer for fixing the root of the cause and that consist of more than acupuncture - Deep tissue massages with corrective exercises and strengthening of the essential muscles that would lead to the problem.

Work with a physio/trainer who knows -
So far one of the better physio whom i can share the same philosophy with is Coreconcepts - one my clients went to them for help and they taught him the same exercises which i would have done with him to cure back pains.

Most definitely. TCM has over 5000 years of history. Where western orthodoc nedicine fail to render help, Traditional Chinese medicine surely alleviate & traet many many health problems. I have experienced its benefits. Join our group for tea.

There was a good documentary in the UK on acupuncture, (Panorama or horizon?). What they discovered that all the claims that it will cure this and that was scientifically unfounded, in other words total bollox, but what surprised everyone was how it managed to control pain. Using MRI scans etc. they measured how the needles blocked pain nerve messages to certain section of the brain. It does work very effectively for pain relief, they showed a woman in China having open heart surgery using acupuncture to control the pain.

That is why people mistakenly believe it cures cancer, arthritis etc. it has not cured anything but just controlled the pain. No denying its a safe and effective pain relief solution.

I am the biggest skeptic of all this snake oil stuff, but the local and well respected hospital in Singapore has an acupuncture department. Plus one of my contractors in London, a big old northern bloke with Love and Hate tattooed across his knuckles, the sort that would love a pub brawl, he had chronic back ache for years and went reluctantly along for this "dodgy Egg fried rice treatment". He came out swearing like Northern builders do, but this time saying how he cant believe it actually worked.

Beware they are many fly by night operators claiming to be specialist, alarm bells should start ringing if they start offering expensive yogi bless crystals to balance on your head. So best to check with the local association to make sure they are properly trained and conforms to all the health and safety guide lines to prevent infections and complications from occurring.

I used to think I had a bad back but finally learned it wasn't bad, just weak. I went to a chiropractor in the U.S. for massage therapy and learned how to do stretching and strengthening exercises. Doctors have made a fortune treating the symptoms of a weak back, poor posture, and improper lifting technique.

See a Doctor to make sure you do not have a herniated disk or some other degenerative problem. If not, then try a physical therapist. If you take care of your back it will not complain so much!

But, your original question; I have used accupuncture for pain management before and it worked for me. (Temporary relief, but much better than taking a drug in my opinion.)

with bias, i think traditional forms of medicine/therapy should take a back seat to modern western medicine (but not thrown out of the car).

pain (which can be referred) is the body's way of telling you there's something wrong some place.

pointy needles and oils should not substitute what a good diagnostician can discover and help treat/maintain/recover/prevent.

neither is it an excuse for an unhealthy lifestyle.
