The free one! Actually i purchased Garmin, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand latest edition.

Though I used the free download for a while, which was okay, few errors on it but is good enough, for most people.

I borrowed a Garmin for a while, but found it rubbish. It draws a big swath over the path you need to drive, so you can't see the complicated Singaporean parallel roads anymore. I ended up taking the wrong road on quite a few occasions. It also tended to turn itself off when approaching a large junction .

I'm used to using TomTom, but it appears that they're not available in Singapore.

Oh! Sounds like you enjoy looking at the sat nav while driving Mine doesn't seem to have any problems at all, it's not been wrong yet, apart from the rapid changing infrastructure of Singapore that may make a difference. You also add more detail if you need it, so maybe your settings was wrong, sound like you had it magnified too high, and if it's switching off, it's doing it for a reason, don't you think? like it's defect.

Of course there are some errors with all maps, hardly the navigation equipment. Most mapping is done by humans, so there will always be errors. You need to make allowances for the unexpected with any maps.

STRONGLY agree.. i just download itand try too.. the graphic not very good also.. still in the process of find one tat suits SG the best..

If you have just downloaded it, it probably needs updating through Garmins website and updating software, otherwise you will have old information. You can also download the mapking maps and try, they also work on Garmin but you have to contribute to the mapping, to get the updates. This is probably why there are errors too on many maps.

I tried Mapking about three years ago and it was rubbish. PoI are not really updated, and the lane suggestions were not existent. However I found the 2008 versions are already a lot better so I would not say anything negative of having Mapking now.

Two others that I found quite okay for Singapore are Agis and Cydle. Agis is pricey but the PoI's and lane suggestions seem quite detailed. However I have never used it and don't even know if they update it.

What I use now is Cydle. Not very much about Singapore but because I got it as a package of Jakarta, Singapore, Malaysia peninsular, Thailand, Aussie, Hong Kong, and whole Western Europe and US. Very handy for my travels - all at a price of if I'm not mistaken 140 - but it was a bundle buy with the hardware.

Well I guess after having Garmin for a month navteq maps, I have to hold my hand up, and say it's truly rubbish, the maps, that is, not the equipment. It appears the maps are well out of date.

best maps for singapore is jerome maps if you use Garmin GPS. Updated frequently, and much much better than the standard Garmin maps sold on a SD card, they are rubbish and out of date.

You will find that quite a few GPS vendors in Singapore add these maps to their Garmin products.

I personally think there is no way to beat a Garmin. It's the best in Spore. Just check out the other driver and their GPS.
