I'm moving to Singapore in one month and I want to have an i-phone to use for emails and maps so I dont get lost. If I buy the i-phone here, can I join a network in Singapore or can anyone recommend any good phone networks? The problem is I will only be in Singapore for 3 months, before relocating to China

should be no problem where you buy your iPhone. you will just be charge for data roaming when you are in singapore or anywhere else in the world.

But wouldn't they have to join Singtel on a 2-year plan? It was that way at Christmas. This would pose a problem.

i think the OP is buying the iPhone in their own home country, then roaming in singapore and china.

yes, that's right. So which network should I join that doesn't have a long contract?

you can join any network you want that is supported/partnered by your home country mobile telco when roaming. no need for any contract.
