Hi,

We are both Singapore PR (Malaysian citizen) newly wed couple planning to have child early next year. I am curious to find out what will be my child citizenship status if my wife is to give birth in Singapore. Any in-sight and sharing is appreciated.

- will my child by default a SPR or Singaporean during child birth registration in Singapore?
- do I have to register my child birth immediately in Malaysia in case we would like our child to be a Malaysian citizen in future?
- how is it possible for my child to be exempted from NS being a 2nd generation of SPR?

- do I have to register my child birth immediately in Malaysia in case we would like our child to be a Malaysian citizen in future? Yes. Otherwise or you could have a problem like a stateless child later as I understand there are sometimes so issued regarding births abroad and the Malaysian Government.
- how is it possible for my child to be exempted from NS being a 2nd generation of SPR? Have a girl. Failing that, put the child on an LTSVP and then on a Student Visa and do not get PR for the child. Otherwise, if it's a male, he will have to do NS.
